Sorry to bother you...does there have to be a theme?

Rhonda 07-05-2012 02:14 PM

This is the only rule. You can do anything you want as long as it is quilt related.

The only requirement is it must have some quilt related features.
Any style /any techniques/ embellishments are fine/mixed media is fine

Latrinka 07-05-2012 03:01 PM

Good googa mooga, I could have a quilt made in the time it takes to read all these rules! LOL!

How would you change it?

I made it as simple as possible. No limits except it has to be quilt related. How can it be any simpler?

It has to be fair hence the no show rule.

The entries have to be posted. So there is info for sending in the entry pics

And votes have to be done in a way Patrice can count them. We can't have votes posted in 3 differant ways. There can only be one way so nothing gets missed.

I've tried to keep it as simple as possible. But some things just have to be said.

QuiltingKrazy 07-05-2012 03:15 PM

I'm in for this one for sure!

Great!! Glad to have you enter!!

Latrinka 07-05-2012 06:00 PM

I know, I'm just teasing, no biggie!

Neesie 07-05-2012 07:13 PM

Latrinka, I thought it was funny. :D Those things do have to be said . . . but it's still a lot of stuff! LOL

Rhonda 07-05-2012 07:17 PM

That's ok. I did take it as a serious thing. I have people all the time challenge what I post in tutes and such. So I just took it in the same vein. This is shorter than what I started out with!! LOL

Neesie 07-05-2012 07:47 PM

Rhonda, it sounds like a fun contest! Whether or not I come up with something to enter, I'm looking forward to see what others make! :)

lindy-2 07-05-2012 07:51 PM

It varies alot I think. The one I just saw posted was 8 1/2" x 8 1/2" but I have seen them all sizes. most of the ones I have seen are usually rectangular but some are square. It is all up to you. I guess the purpose is enough room for a cup and a snack. I've never made any but they sure seem popular.

BonniFeltz 07-06-2012 03:45 AM

Ohhh. Dare I enter? I haven't entered anything before. Hmmm. Yes...I think I will. I do have a question though. is there a specific size that you consider to be "mug rug" size?

Oops. You just answered this question. :) I've only made a couple of mug rugs before but they sure come in handy this time of year when the drink cups sweat so much. It will be fun.

pippi65 07-06-2012 06:13 AM

I think you did just fine. It has to be a little long or otherwise you'll have a ton of questions. Direct & to the point!!

What exactly do you want to know? It can be anything you want it to be. It has to be quilt related of some kind.

ok more specifically what do you mean by "quilt related features'? give me some examples of what you mean. i cannot even come up with an example because i have no idea what you mean by this statement. are you talking about stitches, it must be a quilt sandwich, it needs to have some patchwork???????? what????????

i know sometimes when we say things it makes perfect sense to us.....but sometimes not so much to others.

Rhonda 07-06-2012 05:19 PM

All I meant was it must be related to quilting,. The reason I said it was because I had someone ask me about mixed media meaning she was going to do an entry that used other things besides quilting.

A feature is just an aspect of quilting.. Maybe the style is applique or pieced. Maybe they used origami paper and added a paper pieced fabric flower to their origami paper base. It just needs to be something that says quilt when you look at it. It doesn't have to be a quilt but something that uses a quilt technique whatever that is to you.

You can use anything you want to make yours. It can be pieced or applique or paper pieced or collaged or anything you like. It just needs to fit in the quilt catagorie somehow.

QuiltnNan 07-07-2012 04:30 AM

I know that there were comments about the length of your 'rules'... but I don't see on there that it is limited to one entry per member... is that so?

Rhonda 07-07-2012 07:40 AM

I debated on that one. I wanted to open at least one contest up to more than one entry. but I was concerned that it would mean some people would get lost in the crowd with just one entry if others posted 3 or more. I could limit it to two entries. I also have to watch that I don't make too much more work for Patrice.

Since I can't go back and change the first post I am going to leave it with just one this time. But the next contest that is a small project I will allow 2 entries per person. If this one goes over well I will do it again in the near future and can let it be 2 or 3 entries then.

QuiltnNan 07-07-2012 08:08 AM

thanks for the explanation - some great thoughts there... especially the work for Patrice there :)

I think one entry, per person, is very fair.

Rhonda 07-07-2012 11:58 AM

Well I can understand when the item for entry is a small thing that it might be good to allow more than one entry. It would also be more pictures to look at and vote for.

My other concern is will everyone understand that each entry needs to be sent as an individual entry. One entry per email. Other wise it would be too confusing.

Any time I post there is always someone who is not sure of the rules or those who don't read the rules.
I know this comes with the territory of hosting. I just want to make sure Patrice isn't overloaded with confusing emails.

I'll give it some thought as to how to do it if I do indeed decide to allow 2 entries. Time will tell! LOL

What do you all think about placemats as a contest? And I have been thinking about miniatures. There would need to be some size restrictions on that one.

I know the small projects are easier for everyone to fit into their schedule. Any other ideas?

lindy-2 07-07-2012 07:05 PM

minitures is a realy good one i would sign up for thet for sure

ranger 07-08-2012 04:05 AM

I think both minis and placemats are good ideas.

lhunt825 07-09-2012 05:58 PM

I am new to quilting and want to learn and challenge myself. I hate to appear stupid but what is a mug rug? Is it a coaster for a coffee cup?

there are no stupid questions just questions you don't know the answer to. I hadn't heard of them either til I saw them on here. They are bigger than a coaster but the same idea. The purpose is to have something big enough to set a cup on and room for a snack beside the cup. THe size and shape is up to you and the style techinique etc canbe anything you want.

You can type in mugrugs in the search window above to find threads on here where people have made mugrugs.

judy363905 07-09-2012 06:31 PM

Original Design???

Rhonda, Does this contest Mug Rug have to be a "Designed by You" by that I mean no previously published block pattern mug rug?Just want to be clear on this. Thanks

If you use a pattern you did not design then you have to give credit to the pattern designer. As in Quilter's Cache or where ever you got the pattern. And remember your entry must not have been shown online anywhere. No FB or a blog as well as QB.

judy363905 07-10-2012 03:47 AM

Thank you Rhonda for answering so quickly...:)
