This is "fun" if your husband isn't quite sure about this new hobby/craft of quilting..here is a link to some funny husband stories, I enjoyed and shared with my hubby and we shared laughs and memories of our own.

Here is a link to calculate your borders when you make your quilt and want to expand it, many will simply add decorative borders.
http://www.quiltersparadiseesc.com/C...Calculator.php I've taken a wall hanging, and added sashing between blocks then borders and created a full quilt..or lap quilt & expand the sashing, increase the block size, add borders and you can get a queen quilt. This link has lots of borders tutorials to help you finish your quilt. http://www.victorianaquiltdesigns.ne...ltSettings.htm |
This link has online calculator to figure the fabric you'll need to buy. There are TONS of free sites for blocks, but not the finished quilt. This will help you decide if you have enough of a certain fabric in your stash, or how much to buy and not be short.
http://search.quiltshops.com/calculator/calculator.htm These links will get you to hundreds of quilt shops online, if you can't find that perfect fabric locally, or like me, your local fabric shops are 40+miles away. http://www.quiltshops.com/ http://fabshophop.com/ Here is a link for Batting for less http://www.createforless.com/search/...FRD75wodUVWVuA This link has LOTS of quilt tips and lessons. http://jhittlesewing.funoverload.com...page_1_8x.html I like Erica's also.. here you can find the Skill Builder panels, books & DVD to teach you machine quilting skills to sandwich that finished top into a finished quilt. I bought the beginner 3 panels & book, then the DVD, then the more advanced panel & couple books. This was a wonderful way to learn. http://www.ericas.com/quilting/tools/skillbuilder.htm I also took machine quilting & long arm quilting from Natl Teacher Sharon Shamber, very helpful, and a class by local teacher on machine quilting. But I found these Skill Builder panels and especially the DVD to be very helpful, I can review, practice, and not be presured by time in a class. http://www.ericas.com/ I shared the tip before, library books, quilt reference books, learning DVDs, I like Elenor Burns series (includes DVDs, books, rulers), take local classes, join a local quilt guild, and watch quilt TV shows like Sewing With Nancy, and she has a catalog of many quilting tools. Here is a link for her tutorial clips http://www.createtv.com/CreateProgra...cument&Index=# Finally, I don't have patience to sit and read, but enjoy books on audio while I'm quilting or cleaning or gardening (like someone there 'talking' to me). This link has quilt related novels on audio. I have Master Quilter's and Christmas Quilt, and love both of them. http://www.audioeditions.com/wishlist.aspx And Inspiration? I took classes from Elsie Campbell http://elsiemcampbell.com/prodforsalehead.html Aweinspiring inspiration? I took classes from Sharon Shamber http://www.sharonschamber.com/ This is more advanced, if your a beginner to a long arm machine (or mid, sm home size) this DVD is good. http://atqsales.com/index.php?main_p...&products_id=1 http://columbiariverquilting.com/myr...lting_dvd.html http://columbiariverquilting.com/don...eve_video.html |
WOW! I thought I knew most of the acronyms, but I was sure wrong. I do the newsletter for my quilt guild. I bet most of them haven't heard of some of these. Cool!

Carol Doak has a wonderful video in her Stars book. Check it out at your library and watch it more than once. It really helped me. Also, I have enjoyed many videos on YouTube.
