Well I have tons of that calico 1970 fabric and it reminds me of Little House on the Prairie tv show.

Just Jan, I think Annaquilts is talking about the Little House on the Prairie television show, not the Little House books, or the actual year that is the setting of the stories. The 1970's calico prints seem quite distinctive to me. Sometimes I'm guessing that an older fabric is a Cranston print produced in the 1970's, then I look at the selvage, and it's got Cranston written on it. Cranston offered lots of little calico prints. The television series had the Ingalls girls dressed in calicos that often seem to be the type produced in the 1970's. It was a popular show for several years, and most likely the fabric manufacturers geared some of their designs for the market of seamstresses, young and old, who enjoyed the show.

I have some of those 1970's calicoes in my (ahem) "collection" too. That was the era that I first started sewing and the fabrics remind me of that lovely time when my passion was kindled and I wanted to learn everything. I remember making a pair of drawstring pants for myself... probably bell bottoms... out of (gasp) calico! And I wore them to a jr. high dance and was so proud of them! LOL. :D

What I remember sewing with the calico was one of those dresses that had yards and yards done up in gathered tiers. I probably looked like a huge feather duster. lol

We were funny, weren't we? But we thought we were cool.

eta: I remember dancing the twist when I was 4 years old... 1960.

With, who was he? Chubby Checkers? And that dance tv show, what was it called? And those hit 45 records on my little record player in the blue case... Before those, I had 78 records that were the same size in diameter as the 45s... they were made of red, yellow, and orange vinyl. Those were the days...

OH MY! Look what I've started! I was just teasing Anna. I still have many of those fabrics in my stash and I love them as much now as when I purchased them! And what did we pay? Probably $2 or $3 per yard! Reminds me of the old Donnie Osmond song, "I was country when country wasn't cool!"
TV dance show? American Band Stand? Ok wanna talk about old... how about Crenoline half slips? ;)

Yeah, that was it: American Band Stand! lol I did not have a crinoline slip, but I had a doll that had one. But I had pettipants. Remember those?

Ruffley butt underpants? So cute! All little girls wore those under their short dresses. And cuffed white ankle socks with Mary Jane shoes.

I just danced to records with my big sister who was 12. She was such a teenybopper! Her first LP album was Chubby Checker For Twisters Only. :D We wore it out.
