I like all the variety in your quilts. The one that's second from the bottom in your first post--what's that pattern? I think I might try that one. Or at least put it on the Someday Maybe list:)

Hi zozee, if you are asking me about my post, the second from the bottom with the owls is the pattern Zig Zag Zoom and is free online. I had to change it up some, lol, can't seem to follow a pattern without alterations. Mine was a little more tricky as I used squares for the joining sections so had to make the pieces fit the measurements needed. I think in the original pattern they used strips of fabric which would be a lot simpler.

finally got this one to floppy stage - I started it in April.

These are all the "scrappy" quilt tops assembled this spring

These two are in progress, but all the peices are ready. The string quilt is in rows that need to be sewn together.
They are both pictures of only a part of the quilt. Both will end up around queen size.

This one pretty much used up my batik scraps - though I did have to buy a layer cake as I ran out of a few colors.

I still have a few totes of 1.5" and 2.5" strips, and one of triangles, but I sort of sick of scrappy quilts right now.

Wow, those are great. What's the pattern of the one on the long arm? It looks intriguing.

Do you create a pattern, then sew to it? Or have some sort of intermediate step? I tend to sew my strips together until I get tired of sewing, then press and figure out later what to do with them. Or if I get a bunch of squares, I'll sew 4 patches for awhile.

Love this scrappy! Is this your own design or a pattern? Looks like a fun top to put together. Thanks for posting.

retiredteacher09 12-27-2018 05:46 PM

Very pretty, Macybaby!

wildyard 12-27-2018 07:55 PM

Macybaby, I love your quilts. My favorite looks like an Arkansas Crossroads pattern only very scrappy and perhaps not the 9P centers. Is this your own design and could I copy it? Great job on all your scrappy quilts!!

happylab 12-27-2018 09:43 PM

Macybaby I love your quilt posted in #203. Do you have a pattern? Another one added to my wish list. By the way I love all the others too.

Macybaby 12-28-2018 08:22 AM

Charity - the one on the LA is Snake River, it's a modified log cabin design. None of these are my own design - mostly I find pictures of something I like and then figure out how to make it. Except the Sylvia's Bridal sampler (last one pictured)- it's one thing to figure out one block that is used 50 times, but not figuring out 50 blocks that are used one time!

Happylab, I did not purchase a pattern for that one, but it's real simple as it's only two 3.5" blocks (unfinished). I used a row of 3.5" blocks to break it up a bit.

The best part of going scrappy, you don't need to know the yardage - and often that is the hardest thing to figure out without a pattern that tells you what you need.

Here is a scrappy I made earlier this year it's from Joan Ford's book on scrap quilting. I think it's called sugar and spice. It's baby quilt size.

And for me I have to learn how to read a pattern once in a while...a struggle when one has to follow directions:D

petthefabric 12-29-2018 01:13 AM

Follow directions! I thought they were just suggestions of where to start and then get creative.

oksewglad 12-29-2018 06:25 AM

ptfabric...since I started working in the LQS I have to follow directions when making shop samples...yikes...it's been one of the toughest parts of the job! At home creating is usually done on the fly!:D

Macybaby 12-29-2018 09:38 AM

Started on my next scrappy quilt. Decided it's time to start using up some of my 1.5" and 2.5" strips.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psxrxt3wda.jpg

These totes are packed pretty tight.

Here is one of them sorted and "fluffed up"

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...pszrenwgi4.jpg

I'm doing a curved log cabin clamshell (feline fanatic posted one a while back) using darks and lights (pastels). I pulled all the reds from the dark pile to use for something else (there were a lot of reds)

Got all the logs cut to length, and still have enough for 2-3 more quilts in the totes.

oksewglad 12-29-2018 11:38 AM

Good start, Cathy!

Wildyard - great use of scraps! the blocks you made are wonderful. and I have the same issue- use up my scraps and I make a mess! but it is all good in the end.

retiredteacher09 12-29-2018 05:15 PM

Macybaby: Enjoy using those strips! I have been making some string blocks this past week. I was doing them on foundation fabric and on the diagonal like many quilters do. I have never been a fan of that process although I like the looks of the blocks. I decided I will just sew the strips in rail fashion and turn the blocks in 2 different directions. At least some of my strips are being used. Maybe I will do some log cabin blocks with the strips also.

Yes, of course. I teach some classes and the sample must match the pattern. I forgot.

pinkflowers 12-31-2018 07:51 AM

If you enjoy a good mystery, this one starts tomorrow! This year is a scrappy one!

laurilli 01-01-2019 11:53 AM

LydiaAlicia I just love your scrappy with the sting blocks and square in a square did you have a pattern? And will you share the name?
Macbaby I also like you quilt on # 203 but could you explain a little more about the 3.5 squares? Thanks.

1screech 01-03-2019 07:10 PM

Hate to say this but I so love scraps. I have them somewhat separated into strips and squares or what is big enough for squares and what I call snips and my half square triangles are separate. I seem to love sewing with scraps more than cutting fabrics and I think it is because I have hand and arm issues and struggle with cutting. Love, love, love scraps! I am in folks.

Conchalea 01-09-2019 04:36 AM

I started cutting on some Christmas fabric left over from stockings I made a few years ago. I’m going to use the red & green for strips around some cardinal & snowmen fabric to try out the ‘Round the Twist pattern. It may be a very small wall hanging because I only have a fat quarter of the cardinals.

I dumped out my batik scrap box onto the floor. It's about a 10 year collection of leftovers. Had to dump it out to rummage through it and really see what's there.

There is actually a lot of useable fabric in this pile. Started an all scrap batik quilt.

rryder 01-09-2019 05:54 AM

Way to go Gail! It’s amazing how those scraps build up. Looking forward to seeing your quilt.

happylab 01-09-2019 01:32 PM

Gail way to go, your fabric collect is very colorful. I’m looking forward to seeing your finished project.

From the box of "neutral scraps" and a piece of olive green I don't even remember where or when I got it...Blocks are 6 x 10 inches.

retiredteacher09 02-19-2019 05:45 PM

Mrs Finch: Great way to use up scraps. I really like that green with the scrappy rectangles.

oksewglad 02-19-2019 06:03 PM

Mrs. Finch...a different take with the rectangular blocks...great start!

laurilli 02-21-2019 04:17 PM

Everyone's scrappys are beautiful. Macybaby what the name of the pattern for the first quilt? The one with the black or navy blue back ground.
