The first two need to be quilted and my scrappy log cabin is a year long project.

KalamaQuilts 09-25-2018 03:39 AM

well done Barb!!

WANNABEE 09-25-2018 04:17 AM

Love your log cabin.

Wow, Barb! Those are fantastic!

I finished this scrappy log cabin this past weekend. Now into the pile of 'to be quilted' tops it goes!

Her is another quilt top to be quilted that I finished in July. All the 9-patches are from the scrappy 9-patch swap here on the QB.

I just finished another 80 scrappy 9-patches for the swap going on right now, and I've joined the Mystery Train Ride here on the QB, for more stash busting! I find that if I work on scraps with a group I am much more likely to use them.

So all in all, this will hopefully make 4 scrappy quilts for this year. Not too bad I think!

oksewglad 09-25-2018 05:35 AM

What great scrap results! So encouraging to see. Thanks for sharing.

Patchworkbarb 09-25-2018 08:33 AM

Thank you, slowly decreasing the scraps, one by one.

Another Whoo Hoo from me too. I wish I could make one like yours but I fear that I do not have those beautiful bright scraps. My stash is much more... sedate. Like you work!

Patchworkbarb 09-25-2018 05:37 PM

Thank you everyone, I like bright as you can see.

AUQuilter 09-26-2018 03:45 AM

Fabulous scrappy quilts and wonderful scraps.

retiredteacher09 09-26-2018 04:40 PM

Patchworkbarb and NZ quilter: Very nice quilts!

Not a lot of sewing happening at my house for a variety of reasons. Lol! I have been busier than planned for subbing this month and my poor body is so exhausted by the time I get home. I truly enjoy working with the students though. Eventually my body will adjust again. Plus I have too many projects going right now and my sewing mojo is suffering because of it. Hopefully I will get back in the swing of it this weekend.

oksewglad 09-26-2018 05:26 PM

That's okay, Connie. When the body says stop, it says to rest! Glad that your subbing is a good experience.

I'm off on another tangent...scrapping old denim. Actually repairing MrOk's and Farmer Son's blue jeans. It's cooling down here and the air conditioning holes need to be covered!

retiredteacher09 09-27-2018 05:54 PM

Oksewglad: I am chuckling about your air conditioning holes. Lol! Also, as I get older, I realize it is better to rest than push to get things done when my body is so tired.

Your kitty looks just like mine! I love scraps and have lots.

WMUTeach 09-29-2018 04:53 AM

NZ, really like how you made the patches all play together with the consistent colors of the half square triangles. Very effective and it makes a terrific qui!lt. Congrats on one more accomplishment. I will see you on the Mystery train!

sprice 09-29-2018 04:58 AM

Barb, I love that Xs and Os quilt. I've just started working on one. Real nice block and I like that it finishes at 12 inches. The quilt grows fast!!

m-fay 10-04-2018 03:09 AM

I joined in paintmejudys Mystery 19 and used up a lot of my precut 2 1/2 inch squares.and made a lap quilt. liked it so much, I started again and did a queensize used up all my 2 1/2 inch squares and had to cut more. Still a long way to go before my scraps are gone though. Ill have to use my ipad to post a picture.

m-fay, I love your quilt and the colors you chose for it!

I've been working on a scrappy stars quilt. I just finished the flimsy and will start the back later today. I have also added a dark blue floral border which doesn't show in this photo.

M-fay, lovely #19. Are up for 20? I did step1 last week-end at my quilt retreat. Looking forward to Step 2. Sure do like your color choices for your queen sized gem of a quilt.

oksewglad 10-04-2018 07:39 PM

Like the blue background, m-fay:thumbup: and nice to hear someone is using up the pieces they have cut!

I'm working on red bin now...going to use many of them in the Burgoyne surrounded sew along here on the QB..here's the link if any one is interested in participating.

Lovely scrappy stars quilt, wildyard!

Darcyshannon 10-09-2018 11:53 AM

Seeing all those scrappy quilts is inspiring. Currently sorting scraps by color to get organized.

pyffer3 10-09-2018 12:18 PM

I have no patience for sorting and cutting into squares or strips so I have been taking my scraps and just sewing haphazardly in all kinds of shapes. I will have to take a picture of what I have done so far and post it this evening. It truly is just a random mess, and my scrap pile doesn't appear to be getting smaller! What's the deal?

I like to do this, too. My scraps get smaller, the scrap pile never does...

retiredteacher09 10-10-2018 06:24 PM

pyffer3: I am envious of you! LOL! I have tried many times over the years to just sew my smaller pieces together in random fashion and I just get stressed out. I can sew random strips together but pieces with different shapes are another story. I will try again soon because I know I should be able to do this and not be stressed.

Keep trying retiredteacher09 (reference #191). What better way to get ride of the odd shaped pieces of fabric?

I sure hope this thread continues into next year. I spend 2-3 weeks sorting through a large portion of my scraps mounds. Separating the scraps into strings, background, light, medium, dark fabric, and large pieces of scraps. I'm sure I have enough to make 2-4 quilts. I plan to start the 3-d strip quilt that was a QAL a few months ago from this site. I'm really excited about that one. I also want to make a quilt using 1.5" squared. I saw a lady at the last retreat I went on, work on a twin size quilt made out of the 1.5" squares. A next years project. Plus I have a few other projects to to work on next year. I just hope I have the time and energy to complete them.

petthefabric 11-09-2018 02:34 AM

The last quilt guild workshop used scraps. The instructor encouraged bringing scraps to share. At least 1/2 of the shared pile was mine. And someone wanted all that was left. So I have brights to finish my project. Then the collecting starts anew.

The instructor talked about how she sorted them and also kept a jar next the cutting & sewing tables for crumbs. She used these for cards. I've used them for coasters.

Love Love those little Cottage Blocks... so Cute... I too can't bear to toss scraps... just need time to work on a project... I work full time..

Had so many, decided to donate to a church for prayer quilts. They were in heaven!

I've kept busy making comfort quilts and trying to use my scraps in most of them. Even when I use a focal fabric, like with the owl quilt, I use scraps for other parts of the quilt, like the squares making up the rows. No family with us this year so I spent yesterday and today making blocks from my scraps. These will go into quilts that will be given out at children's cancer units. I had a lot of fun but man do I have a mess all over my sewing desk and cutting table.... scraps everywhere! LOL

Wildyard: Great use of your scraps. Such fun blocks!

oksewglad 12-25-2018 05:33 PM

Looks like the beginnings of a cute quilt!
