I chose this pattern by Maggi Gordon which is on YouTube called "Quickie Quilts" by Maggi Gordon.

This quilt took (3) days to make and finish as completed.

The colors chosen for my project are Chocolate Brown Tone on Tone (100% Cotton from Hancock Fabrics) , The borders are a Plaid print in Black, Beige, Red (100% cotton from Hancock Fabrics), WOW with white circles (100% Cotton from Joann store) and Asian inspired all over print by David Textiles (100% cotton from Hancock Fabrics) and machine pieced using 4 patch blocks, bars, and (4) 12.5" Half Squares as the focal point.
Batting used is 80/20 Cotton batting from Walmart store.

I modified the measurements to make it my style.

It is machine pieced and machine quilted in the ditch with free motion quilting on the borders only.
The quilt is finished with the matching chocolate TOT brown binding and a strip binding of the Asian to complete and measures at 58" x 58".

The borders are a Plaid print in Black, Beige, Red (100% cotton from Hancock Fabrics)

I started it over 10 years ago and completed the top, but finally got it quilted and bound. Here are the specs.....

Quilt size: 56 x 56
Quilt name: Anniversary Quilt (Sample Quilt)
Individual blocks are entirely hand pieced, embroidered, and appliqued. Sashing and borders are machine sewn.
Professionally machine quilted by Common Quilts in Calla Lily Pantograph
Machine pieced backing.

The quilt is done is our wedding colors. I chose the calla lilly pantograph because calla lillies was our wedding flower. I hand embroidered our names and wedding dates on the block with the the appliqued heart. I have blurred out our names but left our wedding date visible so that my hand embroidery can be seen.

The contest helped me complete this quilt instead of letting it sit around for months! It’s only my third quilt and I learned a lot about accuracy and color placement with this one. I found that I needed to use a few more solid types of fabrics because the pattern gets lost if too many similar fabrics are used. Oh well, it’s done and I’m happy about that. The funny thing was I decided to make the back of the quilt with larger squares of the same pattern and picked fabrics I didn’t know what to do with, so I used them for the back, and I like the results of the back more than the front! Go figure – probably some of the best designs come from mistakes!

Thanks for running the contest. It has been good for me!

~Never been posted anywhere online (although, very tempted to ;-D)
~Pattern taken from this website, however, I used my own measurements and fabric choices and changed the design so that the lattice work ended instead with smooth edges and a more finished look (I prefer this, others may not) Block sizes: 6”, 63 blocks Finished size: 64” x 52”

~Machine pieced by me
~Home machine quilted by me with meandering in the body and stippling in the boarder. Body quilted with a variegated blue cotton thread (it looks gray except on the white background) and the boarder quilted with a pink/orange variegated cotton thread.

The design is like the Garden Twist pattern but I did not have the pattern...My daughter made the pattern for me. I machine pieced it and machine quilted it.

I used "Botany" charm packs by Moda for this lap quilt hence the name.
measures 44x58
I adapted the pattern called "Feedsack Patches" designed by Darlene Zimmerman. She used 4" squares but I had the charm packs and went with those. I also used the same fabric for all the 2" corner squares and used charms cut in half as the boarder.
I did FMQ in a meandering pattern using a verigated green thread.

I made this quilt for my sister in law who has just had heart surgery and is only the 3rd quilt I have ever done FMQ on. It is inspired by a wallhanging in Australian Patchwork and Quilting Magazine (Vol 19 No 11) called All Squared Up, but I played with the design on EQ and changed it to suit the amount of fabrics I had in my stash (which isn't much LOL). It measures 54" square.

All 11 are absolutely beautiful, I was expecting to scroll thru them and immediately cast my vote, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to spend some more time looking. Thank you to all 11 participants!!

JNCT14 07-18-2011 06:41 AM

OHHHHHHH - Hey Patrice! How hard would it be to make a virtual quilt show? maybe a slide show format?

If you really want to get crazy, you could do a 3D concept like the display houses do for trade shows with the pictures on the virtual walls.... heehee

Sewfine 07-18-2011 06:43 AM

Wow a lot of beautiful quilts. I will have to take another good long hard look when I get home this evening. All 11 are beautiful.

luvnquilt 07-18-2011 06:51 AM

Wow, stiff competition. How to pick just one?

cctx. 07-18-2011 07:38 AM

Snorky Lvs2Quilt 07-18-2011 09:14 AM

Jim's Gem 07-18-2011 09:39 AM

Beautiful quilts everyone!!!!

cctx. 07-18-2011 09:43 AM

I've narrowed down my top (3) choices, and with that said, it's still hard to decide on which project will get my top vote.

valsma 07-18-2011 09:48 AM

I thought I had it early on, then I kept scrolling. Wow, some lovely quilts. I've got it down two now but it is hard. Great job participants.

pdcakm 07-18-2011 10:03 AM

ok, tried to pick a favorite. couldn't. tried to pick a least favorite. couldn't. was able to pick favorite fabrics, favorite pattern, favorite technique. problem is that each of those categories is on a different quilt. i always have this problem picking my favorite at quilt shows. they are all wonderful, each in it's own way. will have to cogitate some more.

DeeBooper 07-18-2011 12:10 PM

Wow, all the quilts are gorgeous...great job everyone and good luck...they all deserve to win!!!

cctx. 07-18-2011 01:04 PM

It was a very tough decision to make, but I cast my vote already.

I've already cast my vote too. Does it count? Are we too early? It's 10.53 pm here, and I glaze over when I see your time zones, I'm firmly ensconced in GMT. Now I've got dinner in me and have the mental energy to work it out I've found voting hasn't opened yet. Oh dear, I daren't vote twice.... Sorry Patrice, what should I do?
