Well, if it qualifies here, I have a star log cabin top done, had to go and buy the zinger and border because I did not have enough fabric to finish it and nothing I had worked. It is going in show so needed it right. Then to finish up the stash of 30s fabric I accumulated, I have two baby quilts out of the blocks and fabrics I have on hand. Will use up a solid in my stash that will work for their zingers and to complete the stash busting, on one will make nine patches with scraps and pieces, then the other will be using the red solid I have in stash and then use the red/black/white 30s prints for the border. I may have to piece them or one side be red and the other the black type fabric, but will get it used. There, whew, I qualify on that one.

ok I really intended to go in and say HI.. really that was it !!! :o
but he HAD to show me these lovely two bolts that would look great in my collection...

Yup, They came home with me.. Doh !!!!

vickig626 08-21-2012 07:00 AM

ok, since I really need to cut down my stash -- overflowing beyond overflowing -- so count me in. I work on projects other than just quilts so if these will count for destashing, I will post pics of these as they get done.

Right now, I'm making a batch of zippered card holders that's an "in-the-hoop" project.

jillaine 08-21-2012 08:44 AM

Let me know when you're ready and I'll walk you through it.

QuilterMomma 08-21-2012 10:45 AM

Ok, no photo quite yet, but i did destash some 30s fabrics that I did not use for the other quilts I made. I used up 5 yards of fabric for the Boomerang swap. Yep, I destashed five yards. So there. I had to mail out a lot of f8ths, but I do not have all that fabric anymore. How is that? I will show you the end results when they come back to me all made up in blocks. LOL I know, sneaky, but doable. Now I get to play with others fabrics. :p

I'm in. I have been trying to destash a bit also. Looking forward to all the pictures. It is always an inspiration to see so many beautiful quilts.

ok, here is one project top that I will be quilting this weekend that I used my stash to finish up the blocks to 18" each.
I am using a solid cream on back so the quilting will look like a wholecloth on the back. Yep, need precision on this one. The thread will be a cream/yellow color, buttercream on both top and back as well so will show up. Hopefully get done so will be entering in the fair next week.

Vanogay 08-21-2012 02:57 PM

I think that log cabin is very pretty. I'm dyslexic, and that particular pattern really stumps me every time I try it. I don't do many log cabin patterns.

QuilterMomma 08-21-2012 03:48 PM

I am so tired of the log cabin, may be some time before I even think of doing another one once these are done. did the Wonky Log Cabins which were fun because it did not matter about the strips which worked real easy,

ube quilting 08-21-2012 03:56 PM

Oh, what fun! Anxious to see all the finished works!

peace

It has been so long since I checked out the Quilting Forum that I didn't see this one. Between a separation, my 16yr old DGD moving in with me and a very dear friend's husband having open heart surgery, I just haven't had the " quilting spirit". Is there an end date for this challenge? It sounds fascinating and I would love to participate...maybe I can get back into my quilting spirti.

jillaine 08-22-2012 05:34 AM

Quiterella, there's no end date. It's kind of an ongoing monthly challenge to encourage and support each other to shop from our stash. I'm inviting people to a) post photos of their "stash store" and b) post photos of completed quilts made from their stash.

MistyMarie 08-26-2012 05:50 PM

I just found out this week that I don't get paid until the end of September, yet my last paycheck was on July 31st. That means a couple months of Top Ramen and no more spending on anything but absolute essentials. (I am a school teacher and I recently moved and took a new teaching job, but thought they paid in August since I started on the 14th. So, I definately need to be part of this challenge. No more fabric shopping for me! Wah. Not only that, but I took a $30,000 pay cut to move up to a little mountain town and get my kids out of Aurora, CO. Too much violence and problems in a big city. Therefore, I am nowhere near a fabric store, so the temptations are much less.

Well I have managed to put a dent in my stash. I have made 9 quilts and 98% was from my stash. I had to get backing for one of the quilts.....Here are some of the pictures of 5 of the quilts, did not get pics of the other ones......

lizzy 08-27-2012 03:13 AM

Good Challenge! I'm in! I have been trying to use as much of my fabric as possible. Thanks.

AUQuilter 08-27-2012 05:36 AM

Great challenge! I had been cutting kits from my stash to do on a retreat- just found out it is cancelled. So I am having my own retreat starting tomorrow through Thursday morning.

QuilterMomma 08-27-2012 01:01 PM

Great job cajun quilter, you did good.

AU Quilter - wanna do a virtual quilting day on Thursday - and maybe Friday? I'm in it with you if so. I just found out I need another quilt for a veteran for November. I've had one in planning, but didn't realize I'd need it so quickly. I'm in for a virtual retreat. Let me know!!!!

I put a slight dent in my stash. I just finished cutting up all of the flannel in my stash that I had purchased from the lady who previously owned my Bernina Artista... 3 years ago. Only problem was that I found I needed more solid fabric to go with all of the 6" squares I cut up. Took advantage of the Snuggle Flannel that Joann's has on sale for $2.99 a yard. After washing and drying it I was pretty impressed with its quality. Anyway, I have all the squares cut and matched with square. Next in line will be assembly line sewing hundreds of two 6" squares together. First to come out of those will be a throw for my DH and one for myself for our loveseat recliners and next will be throws for my Mom and sis. My goal is to not have any flannel left in my stash at the end. Planning to make crazy patch pincushions with the flannel scraps and then I know someone who uses flannel scraps. I have never attacked my stash like this before. It is sorta energizing!

Would love to see your project with flannel in progress. Can you post pics? I have a whole stack of flannel scraps and need to make two baby gifts.

jillaine 08-30-2012 04:27 PM

Great work, gals! (are there ANY guys on this board anymore?)

QuilterMomma, do you have a fullsize photo of your avatar? Tell us about it!

QuilterMomma 09-01-2012 07:11 AM

Sandy, I will post some photos as I get my project going. So far, I have those paired 6" blocks stacked at the foot of my sewing table. Life is getting in the way some right now. :)

I think I had to purchase the backing as I didn't like anything I had to use. Does this stil make it 90% or not???????????????

I love this! What size are the largest squares in the blocks?

LoisM 09-01-2012 10:45 AM

Great job of using your stash, Myra! I really love the purple one.

Vanogay 09-01-2012 04:46 PM

Trying to get some things done this weekend. Have to leave for Atlanta (Conyers, actually) on Wednesday. My BIL died on Thursday and we're going down to be with my sister for a few days and to attend the memorial service. Trying to finish another Quilt of Valor first - it's totally stash also. I'll post a picture of it (it's in progress, almost finished).

Lois M, the largest blocks in my Scrappy Asian are 6", I believe. The pattern is downstairs and I'm trying to remember. I have to take some pictures and post them tomorrow, so I'll pull the pattern back out and check that at the same time. I had plenty of the flower blocks to make a 3rd quilt, but not enough of the black and that gold/white. I'll find something else in my stash and start another. Thought I'd try that butterfly pattern everyone was talking about in the very first pages of this thread. But, Atlanta first and then home again and back to my comfortable grind.

LoisM 09-01-2012 07:35 PM

Thank you for taking the time to respond, Kathleen. I'm very sorry for your loss. I'm sure you'll be a great comfort to your sister.

donac 09-02-2012 02:07 AM

Kathleen sorry about your loss

I started working on this idea this week. I started making lapquilts for neices and nephews for Christmas. I made about 40 half log cabins in three hours thiswee. I will post when I get some things done. Most of this is from my stash. I am buying some blacks and greys since I don't have many of those and that is what one of my neice wants.

Krisb 09-02-2012 01:16 PM

Kathleen's quilt is, I think, Scrappy Asian Road from the Oct 2011 issue of Quilters World.

QuilterMomma 09-02-2012 07:17 PM

Sorry for the loss Vanogay. Have a safe trip.

Busted 4 yard for backing on a quilt, then found another piece that was two yards and a piece left from another backing of a quilt sewed together and finished up. Then another two yards for backing on tablerunners. Yep, had to buy some fabric for the backing on the faux drunkard path quilt, but it is now quilted and looks awesome. You counted that right, I have finished six quilts, oh there was five yards for another quilt that I did not even realize I had would work for it. Not bad I'd say. That was only four yards in and 15 yards out.

Thank you everyone for the condolences. In a way, it was a blessing, but that'll be some time before you can 'really' think that way. He had been so sick. My sister seems to be holding up okay, but this next week will be hard. Plus today is her birthday and tomorrow is/would have been her wedding anniversary.

Checked on the size of the largest block in the Asian Scrappy Road quilt and it is 8" (not 6" as I guessed).

Attached is a picture of the Quilt of Valor I am working on - it is all stash - and the backing will be from my stash as well, so this one is 100% buster!!! I'm working on sashings and side panels on it - so only the big blocks are finished. I'll work on it again when we return from Atlanta.

Vanogay 09-03-2012 08:18 AM

And yes, Krisb - the Asian Scrappy quilt is from the October 2011 issue of Quilters World. A fun quilt to do if anyone is interested.

jillaine 09-11-2012 01:44 PM

Vanogay, that is stunning; I'm typically not drawn to red white and blue quilts, but the "organic" sense of the "white" really gives warmth and movement to the entire quilt. Nice work, and all stash, too.

I'm still hand-quilting away on a king-size quilt for my in-laws. I'll say this: my hand-quilting is improving. My stitches are a) getting more even, and b) getting more by-the-inch. I also broke my first needle! Next needle was smaller.

QuilterMomma 09-11-2012 02:00 PM

good to see you jillaine. hope all is going well. handquitling, koodos to you.

this week I have not had much production, almost get to say a yard out for the chicken blocks, once I finish up the applique on one set. When done with the table runner and the dq, will be able to say 1.5 yards out. I am anitcipating the excitement of telling wonderful you that I have busted some yardage.\

I did bust some pounds, I am now 145, first time in four years I might add. Now to get to the 140 this month that was the size I was when we moved to Spokane. Wouldn't that be great! Would be stupendious if I hit my goal weight before I went home for Thanksgiving. Hmmm, wonder if 15 pounds off by November 22 would be doable?

jillaine 09-11-2012 05:38 PM

Quiltermomma-- I have a weight-loss goal, too. But it's been a REAL struggle. My ultimate goal is to shed 30 pounds (which would return me to wedding weight), but I'd be really happy if I could get 15-20 off! Ooops! Off topic?

I finished quilting and binding 3 quilts last month. The newest top was completed in October, but the fabrics were from stash.

The first one is Carolina Christmas, a Bonnie Hunter quilt which I did as a mystery several years ago. I do mysteries from stash, but I ran out of the bright white part way through. The back however is completely from stash as I was too cheap to buy backing.

The second one is Fun with Bricks, another Bonnie Hunter pattern. This was my leader/ender project for a while. The border and backing fabric is one of the larger pieces I got from my mom's stash several years ago. I'm finding all sorts of backings from her stash.

The final one I finished in July. Everything was from stash, including a great fall apple print from sometime in the 90's -- another piece of fabric that I brought home from my mom's.

Right now I'm working on a scrappy irish chain using Bonnie Hunter's instructions and little 3" spools -- all from stash.

Can you tell I tend to be scrappy and a fan of Bonnie Hunter?

jillaine 09-12-2012 08:05 AM

Awesome! Nice work!

Sophie2 09-12-2012 08:41 AM

Over the past weekend I managed to get thru 5 yards of my fabric. I made a valance and eight tie backs - don't suppose that really counts as it isn't quilting - then made two table toppers to match the valance. Guess that gets a little closer to quilting. I am now working on a picture of flowers that was a kit. Do kits count as "stash busting"? Also made some wall hangings with my embroidery machine out of my stash. Guess I should take some pictures. Feels good to use up some of my stash!

jillaine 09-12-2012 08:47 AM

If it's in your stash, it's stash-busting.
