I couldn't resist putting together the matched sets yesterday -- matching up fabrics is one of my favorite parts of quilting. Then as long as they were together, I thought I might as well cut them, so it looks like I will be doing week three after all. I think these may be the smallest flying geese I've ever made (unless the Ringo Lake geese also finished at this size).

joe’smom: I was thinking the same about the small flying geese. I can’t remember either if we did them that small with Ringo Lake.

I was going to do the 4 at a time but remembered I needed to have red on the right side of the triangle. Oh well. I may get to it later in the week. Still trying to finish week 2.

I haven't made much progress on Unity this week. I did get everything cut for week 3 and the geese are sitting beside my machine waiting to be sewn. I decided to turn my attention to getting caught up with the Quilted Twins mystery. I'll see how much I can get done on Unity today.

Here is the link for Unity part 4:

The center block looks too small to me now. I wonder if making this week's block smaller would help with that. Thoughts, anyone?

I'm still working on part 3. I really like how it looks so far but when I went to look at the pattern with today's finished clue, I see what you mean by the center looking too small. I wonder if a darker frame around part 2 would have made it stand out more. I hope to get both clues done before next Monday. I just hope I don't lose too many points on the part 3 stars when I sew them together. :)

Now that I've seen quite a few examples of completed week 4s, I am getting somewhat used to the proportion issue. I'm still considering the idea of reducing the size of those units; probably the thing to do would be to make a few of each size and judge the effect.

joe’smom: I should check social media to see how they are turning out. I’m still working on part 3. I’m enjoying the little size but adapted the size of my triangles by using my die cutter. The larger triangles give me wiggle room on the seams. Then I use a specialty FG ruler to trim them up.

It's rectangulation today! I might even have a chance to catch up this week.

I decided on making the week 4 unit half-size. I don't have enough fabric in these colors to re-cut it full-size, so I hope I will like it this way!

joe'smom: I'm looking forward to seeing your adaptation for week 4.

I have not sewn for a couple of days. However, I have been using my die cutter and cutting most of the pieces that way. I should finish the cutting tomorrow and maybe I will get some sewing mojo back. I like when I have 'lighbulb' moments. Adapting Bonnie's units to be cut on my die cutter have given me several with this Unity quilt. Also, I am using lots of smaller pieces of fabric so it feels good to reduce the scrap pile some.
