pyffer3: I am envious of you! LOL! I have tried many times over the years to just sew my smaller pieces together in random fashion and I just get stressed out. I can sew random strips together but pieces with different shapes are another story. I will try again soon because I know I should be able to do this and not be stressed.

Keep trying retiredteacher09 (reference #191). What better way to get ride of the odd shaped pieces of fabric?

I sure hope this thread continues into next year. I spend 2-3 weeks sorting through a large portion of my scraps mounds. Separating the scraps into strings, background, light, medium, dark fabric, and large pieces of scraps. I'm sure I have enough to make 2-4 quilts. I plan to start the 3-d strip quilt that was a QAL a few months ago from this site. I'm really excited about that one. I also want to make a quilt using 1.5" squared. I saw a lady at the last retreat I went on, work on a twin size quilt made out of the 1.5" squares. A next years project. Plus I have a few other projects to to work on next year. I just hope I have the time and energy to complete them.

The last quilt guild workshop used scraps. The instructor encouraged bringing scraps to share. At least 1/2 of the shared pile was mine. And someone wanted all that was left. So I have brights to finish my project. Then the collecting starts anew.

The instructor talked about how she sorted them and also kept a jar next the cutting & sewing tables for crumbs. She used these for cards. I've used them for coasters.

Had so many, decided to donate to a church for prayer quilts. They were in heaven!

I've kept busy making comfort quilts and trying to use my scraps in most of them. Even when I use a focal fabric, like with the owl quilt, I use scraps for other parts of the quilt, like the squares making up the rows. No family with us this year so I spent yesterday and today making blocks from my scraps. These will go into quilts that will be given out at children's cancer units. I had a lot of fun but man do I have a mess all over my sewing desk and cutting table.... scraps everywhere! LOL

I love when nothing goes to waste. I could stare at these treasures all day long.
