Cake From A Can

1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 can tomato soup
1-1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda dissolved in 1 Tbsp hot water
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp each nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, allspice
1 cup raisins
1 cup walnuts
Confectioner's sugar

Mix shortening, sugar and soup. Add dry ingredients, mix thoroughly. Add raisins and walnuts. Pour into greased and floured 9x9 pan. Bake at 350 degrees F for 50-60 minutes. Test with toothpick for doneness. When cool sprinkle with confectioner's sugar.

Have you baked this? It sounds like something I had years ago with unfortunate results. As soon as I saw the can of soup, I winced from the memory.

Would it be lunch, dinner or dessert?

The one I had tasted like moist chocolate cake, streaked with an acidic slime. A batch of us were guinea pigs for a friend's mom, and almost immediately afterwards, it all of it came back up. Everyone scattered to bathrooms and bushes. Nasty stuff!

That is why I asked whether she had tried the recipe. I remember it as sickening, and would not wish it on anyone. YUCK!!!
