Default Bacon wrapped water chestnuts oh so good..

    Bacon Wrapped Water Chestnuts.

    INGREDIENTS:

    SOY SAUCE
    1 Can Whole Water Chestnuts
Brown Sugar (about 1/3 a cup?)
    Ketchup
    Bacon
    toothpicks about 24
foil or parchment paper for covering sheet you bake on so easy no worry clean up.

    1) drain water chestnuts. Place in mug, cover with soy sauce. Refridgerate 8 hours to 24. Drain.

    2. Bacon: partially cook bacon after cutting each piece in half. I cook it in a pan til the white part goes clear. Remove from pan, pat grease off.

    3. Take bacon, drizzle ketchup over each piece spread with back of spoon. Make sure you put enough on each one that its looking more like ketchup than bacon.

    4. Take brown sugar sprinkle heavily over each piece. make sure you get a nice coating so you will get that perfect sweet and salty flavor.

5). Place one water chestnut in the center of each piece of bacon. Pull bacon up on each side and pin together with toothpick going all the way through.

place bacon/waterchestnuts on foil lined cookie sheet. Place in oven at 450 degrees for 10 plus minutes til golden brown, crispy bacon. some of the juice will spill on your tray and look burnt. don't worry about that worry about the bacon getting nice and brown and not burned. Remove from oven.

Serve warm with the option of a dip of sweet chili sauce. (comes ready made in a bottle). totally gives it a sweet, sour, salty taste. yum! great munchy for just the family yet good enough to serve to guests.. delicious!

they are like candy when cooked the sugar caramelizes the bacon and the soy gives them a sweet salty flavor.

They are delicious, but be very careful when eating them. IF that bacon is not cooked to a crisp, it's so easy to choke on them. My husband nearly choked to death on one at a party once.

We like just the bacon wrapped around the water chestnut and baked. Must turn half way through cooking. We're trying to cut down on calories, but still have an occasional treat.
