Favorite Sloppy Joe Recipe
#11
This is my favorite.....makes a lot and freezes well. Sloppy Joes - 4 lbs. hamburger, 1 cup onion, chopped, 14 oz. bottle catsup, 1 cup water, 2 T. brown sugar, 1 T. worcestershire, 1 T. salt, 2 tsp. vinegar, 1 tsp. mustard. Brown hamburger and onion, drain, add remaining ingredients, simmer and spoon onto hamburger buns. Also good on noodles, rice or baked potatoes.

I use this oldie but goodie for small or large groups. If you like it less spicy only use 1 tsp chili powder. I put the amounts for 38 servings in () this fits in a Nesco.
1 LB ground beef (13 Lbs)
1/2 Cup chopped onion (3 cups)
1/2 cup chopped celery (2 1/2 cups)
1/4 cup chopped bell peppers (2 1/2 cups)
1/2 of a 7 oz bottle of catsup (#6 - 20 oz or #4- 32 oz)
2 Tbls vinegar (1 cup)
2 Tbls brown sugar (1 1/2 cups)
1 tsp prepared mustard (4 Tbls)
1 Tbls chili powder (2 1/2 Tbls)
Brown beef, onions, celery and bell peppers- pour off grease then add rest of ingredients and simmer.

Sloppy joes
My son who is all grown up now use to rave about the sloppy joes his friend's mom made. Well, I finally asked for her recipe and she said, "it's just Manwich!" So that's what I use still, 10 years later! It IS good!

I was trying to make my own Sloppy Joe mix. One pound ground meat browned with onion and bell pepper. Drain. To the mixture add 1 can of original Rotel tomatoes, 1 T. ketcup,1 t. mustard, salt & pepper to taste and the secret ingredient is at least 1/4 c. brown sugar.
I hope my memory has served me well tonight and passed along a good recipe.
