HOT FRENCH CHEESE SANDWICHES

1/2 lb. Sharp Cheddar cheese, grated
1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened
2 eggs
1 tsp. garlic salt
1 tsp. onion salt
16 slices white bread

In bowl, blend cheese and butter. Add eggs and salts and whip until creamy. Spread mixture on slice of white bread. Place another slice of bread on top and also spread it with the cheese mixture. Sprinkle with paprika. Cut into halves. Baked 10 to 15 min. at 400 degrees F.

NOTE: These will be layered with the top layer being cheese filling...i.e., bread, filling, bread, filling.

These may be frozen and baked as needed. Good to have in the freezer for a quick meal. I have used them often for brunch when I have company.

I was sold the minute I read this recipe! I printed it immediately! Finally tried it tonight. YUMMY! Everyone loved them! Thanks for a great one. This keeper recipe is going in "my book!"

One silly question (hubby made me think, but he never cooks!)... the second piece of bread is put face down on the other half, right? Not open face so to speak?

Anyway, it was a fun family dinner to prepare because everyone helped and they were intrigued with the recipe! Thank you!

Chele...Actually, it IS open-faced. If there hadn't been a picture with it, I probably would have done it the other way, too. Put filling on one slice of bread. Then put the other slice on top and put more filling on it. I guess you would call it a layered sandwich.

Glad you enjoyed it.

Wow, my husband was RIGHT?!! LOL! JK! He is most times! Okay, next time I make these fun sandwiches, they'll be open face. They were delicious reheated today for lunch. Two meals in one! That's what I like. Thank you again!
