Mom always made Poor Man's Cake - named because it used no eggs or milk. Google that you will find several. My mom added gum drops to the recipe and it is our tradition at Christmas time.

The recipe posted the other day was called "War Cake".

Though, I bet if you googled, you'd find lots of variations of what you're looking for!

I appreciate all of the responses, however thats just not it, it was made with hot milk almost to the scalding point and when the cake comes out of the oven it has a self frosting on it. I appreciate the answers, really I do, I'm still looking.

LadyRebel ... you've peaked my interest, with it being without eggs, milk and butter. And I'm sure that many others would like to see the recipe too.

Would you please consider posting it for us all to enjoy?
    Please? and Thanks!

Boiled Raisin Cake or Poor Man's Cake
2 cup white sugar 1/2 cup lard pinch of salt 1 cup raisins
2 cup hot water 1/2 cup butter 1 tsp cloves 1 tsp cinnamon

Boil 1 minute. Take off flame and add 2 tsp baking soda. Let cool and add 3 cups flour. Bake in moderate oven.
Great Grandma, Mrs. J. Valentine My mother used to add candied fruit during the holidays for a mock fruit cake. I believe it baked for about 1 hour. Hope this helps you.
