As for the dangers of silicone, has it occurred to anyone that parchment is not just paper? It has been either treated or coated. Info from Wikipedia:
Parchment paper Modern parchment paper is made by running sheets of paper pulp through a bath of sulfuric acid (a method similar to how tracing paper is made) or sometimes zinc chloride. This process partially dissolves or gelatinizes the paper. This treatment forms a sulfurized cross-linked material with high density, stability, and heat resistance, and low surface energy – thereby imparting good non-stick or release properties. The treated paper has an appearance similar to that of traditional parchment. Bakery release paper The stickless properties can be also achieved by employing a coated paper, for which a suitable release agent — a coating with a low surface energy and capability to withstand the temperatures involved in the baking or roasting process — is deposited onto the paper's surface; silicone (cured with a suitable catalyst) is frequently used. |
I love parchment paper....

I have and use both, but I do wonder about the long term effect of using silicone at 350+. Just a worrier, I guess.
Ever wonder about "that new car smell" we all love? Just sayin! Tho I understand the concerns. I love my new silicon baking sheets after using them during the holidays. Not sure I am going to use the silicon pans, etc. Sandy |
I am not crazy about anything that has plastic to it. I personally use the parchment paper. I have read so many things about cancer with plastic.

I prefer parchment paper because I can use it in any shape pan. I also use it as a pressing sheet in my sewing room.

Silicone baking sheets are not plastic. They are made with glass and food grade silicone and are reported to be non-toxic and inert. I love mine. It's great for making Lace Cookies which are so easy to crumble and so hard to remove from a cookie sheet.
Not affiliated with any company or product just like my baking silicone sheet. |
