Thanks everyone for all the recipes and suggestions. I did a couple of these and plan on doing more of them for my next get together.

Creme brulee french toast
1/2 c butter 1 c brown sugar 2 tbsp maple syrup 1/2 tsp rum extract 1 loaf country style (french/italian) bread 6 eggs 1 3/4 cup half & half 1 tsp vanilla 2 tsp Grand Marnier 1/4 tsp salt Butter 9 x 13 baking dish. In small saucepan over low heat melt butter with the sugar, maple syrup and rum extract. Pur the mixture into baking dish. Cut bread in 1 1/2" slices. Arrange in single layer in baking dish. Squeeze in to fit if necessary. In bowl, whisk eggs; half & half; vanilla; grand marinier; salt. Pour evenly over the bread. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight. (flip bread after an hour or so of soaking). In the morning. Let dish sit at room temp for 30 min (or longer). Bake uncovered at 350 for 35-40 min. Serve immediately. We buy sausage and scramble it and store in the freezer. I will scramble hash browns and toss in some of the sausage, and crack a couple eggs and scramble till done, with seasonings of choice, maybe with dices onions or bell pepper too. Then I take a portion size and put in a heated tortilla and top with shredded cheese for an on the go breakfast or fast hot breakfast at home.
