Thanks for the recipe.

Hi Kathy, I like to make a roast pork shoulder and when we're done with it after the first meal--I make cabbage soup with it. I trim some of the fat off the roast-render it- I add the cut off chiunked meat from the roast and brown it a little-then saute onions and garlic till they are nice and soft just golden not brown. season with salt and pepper. now you add the rest of the roast bone and all--add some beef broth and water to cover it all and add a lid/simmer for an hour or so- add two 2 lb packages of the refrigerated saurkraut that have been rinsed and drained. cook for a few more hours. I also add a few peeled quartered potatoes. This is more like a stew/soup. it is really good.
Note: after it simmers you will lose some of the liquid. you can add more beef broth or water.

I used to do it with onions but my sister can't stand onions so we make it without to make her happy!

Golly, first fried cabbage and kielbasi, then cabbage soup, and now pierogies -- wow, I'm hungry. Looks like this quilt board has a lot of Polish descendents like me on it. Wish we could all get together for a real Thanksgiving meal.

When you make your homemade noodles, put in a generous pinch of baking powder. It helps the noodles plump up a bit when they are cooked.

Just happen to have a head of cabbage in the crisper. Love it done with bacon fat, but definitely not a healthy dish that way. Once a year we indulge, hey at my age it is time to enjoy the things that are bad for you once in awhile. Love cabbage with caraway, or kielbasa or just about any way it can be prepared; oooo like in a slow cooker with a pork shoulder roast.
