Thanks for the recipe! I can do that, no chocolate chips here but I can use a chocolate bar and crush it to pieces, melt before pouring it on and I hope that works :)

Just took this candy to Quilt Guild Christmas Party, what a hit! About 5 people asked for the recipe.

Seems like a lot of butter. What does the crackers look like after butter melts. I need to only make half as that;s the size pan I have here & a small oven (in an RV)/

Just made it. Turned out wonderful, I made it with white chocolate chips and Christmas sprinkles. They didn't melt like the chocolate but it's okay, it tastes great. So if you use white chocolate, melt it before you pour it on.

The crackers are completely covered in toffee and look like flaky pie crust when bitten into. If you are making a smaller pan, definitely reduce the amount of butter and sugar. The recipe says about 40 crackers and that was my largest cookie sheet so adjust according to the number of crackers you use. No need for more toffee. It is very rich. Truly a butter toffee similar but better than Werther's hard caramels.

The first recipe I was given used a cup of butter and a cup of sugar to 40 saltine crackers - way too rich. 3/4 cup each of butter and sugar suits our taste. So feel free to play with the proportions but use same amount of sugar to butter or you don't get the butter toffee taste.
