Cooking Ham

Not positive about this but I think last year I cooked my ham by covering the roasting pan with foil. Does anybody do this? I cook the type of ham that is precooked. What do you do? Do you just throw it in the oven without the foil? And please, no glazes, I'm too lazy.

That is what I do, and also I don't use the glaze that comes with the ham. I just set the oven on 325 for about an hour. May be too long, just have to check it a time or two.

Most of the time, I completely wrap our ham in foil. Then, if we want glaze(my DD and DGS like this), I unwrap, glaze, and do a quick turn in oven to brown.

I usually do pre-cooked as well. Cover with foil for however long it says to cook. I do usually glaze so after doing that, leave uncovered for a bit. Cook in a teflon coated roasting pan though.

Wrap mine in foil twice and put in crock pot on high for several hours. very juicy!

I put mine in a pan,add 1/2 cup water, cover with foil, and cook at 350 for 7 to 10 minutes per pound. I discard the commercial glaze thingy and make a Taison sauce to go with the ham. That, plus scalloped spuds, steamed asparagus, rolls, and bunny cake for dessert.

Oops! That would be a raisin sauce...

I use to always buy those precooked meals at the local grocery store and the instructions were pretty good so I never burn the dinner!! NOT a very good cook.

I just cooked my half ham right out of the package. 325 degree oven for about 2 hours. The taste of the ham was perfect. No glaze or whatever, I can use leftovers for lots of dishes.

I always buy either a bone in shank or butt. I boil them for a couple hrs. to get rid of a lot of the salt, slice and serve. If I want a glaze put it in the oven for a short time with the glaze on. I get so many compliments and everyone that asks how I do my ham can't believe it.
My Mom taught me to do it this way.

My ham was a success. I covered the pan with foil and a 1/2 cup of water in the pan. Cooked for 2 1/2 hours and it came out perfect. Now if I could just "cook" my SIL to come out perfect, my holiday would have been great. Ha, ha.

I do the precook end as well, but I rub about 2oz orange juice concentrate and about 1/2 tsp Ground cloves on the outside of the ham. I also cut the fat flap off. Wrap in foil cook at 275 for 12 minutes per pound. If I feel like a glaze I make a sauce with 4 TBsp brown sugar, 1 tsp soy sauce, and 2 TBsp mustard. Remove the foil and brush glaze on ham a couple of times during the last 30 minutes. You can add some of the orange concentrate and a 1/4 tsp ground clove to the glaze.

I was lazy but I did a really quick glaze sort of thing I added 1/2 cup Orange juice about 1/4 cup brown sugar and poured some pancake syrup over it stuck it in the oven for an hour while the scalloped potatoes cooked and it was very good!

A lady told me the other day she put pineapple on the on her ham and put it in cooking bag instead of putting foil on it. It was really moist and fell to pieces. Every one said it was so good.

Foil line a 9 x 13 cake pan

Add the ham, cut side down

Slice all around the ham (about 1/4") in a diamond pattern

Drizzle the juice of one can of sliced pineapples all over the ham (the slices above help the juice kind of get inside a bit)

Pat brown sugar all over the ham

Lay the pineapple slices on and all around the ham

Place in oven, uncovered, at 325 degrees. Bake 15 minutes for each 1 pound of ham.

This is a crowd favorite in our house. :)
