Hershey's Chocolate Syrup Question

Is the Hershey's Chocolate flavored syrup in the plastic squeeze bottles the same formula as the Hershey's Chocolate flavored syrup in the 16 oz metal can?

The reason for the question: It seems like the brownies/cake made from syrup in the can turn out better than the ones made from the syrup in the squeeze bottle.

luce321 08-01-2014 03:06 PM

I did not know that it came in a can. I always use the squeeze bottle. Sorry I could not be of help. Good luck.

toverly 08-01-2014 03:15 PM

Good question, I remember the can as being thicker. No way could it "squeeze" so, your hunch might be right.

tessagin 08-01-2014 03:21 PM

that sounds good on a big ole dish of ice cream with nuts and cherries! And I don't have any of it! Shoot!!

bearisgray 08-01-2014 03:27 PM

I have been known to consume the chocolate syrup "as is" -

I'm saving calories by not having it with anything else! :o

Perfect way to go! To me, the can is thicker but it could be just perception. Hope some one knows.

Bearisgray, I like your logic!

this would be a great question to ask the people at Hershey, at their toll free number - AND - I bet they would send you some coupons as well!

llong0233 08-02-2014 09:56 AM

I have never noticed any difference, except in the price. Can't say for the present as I haven't purchased any in quite a while. But back in the day when I did it was much less expensive, per ounce, in the can.

Jakers1 08-02-2014 11:28 AM

Check the label and see if each has the same ingredients. I always assumed they were different and taste differently as well.

mapleie 08-02-2014 01:50 PM

wonder if you checked the nutrition label and compared things if that would give you a hint, serving size and sugar grams etc.

jpwagner 08-02-2014 02:36 PM

There seems to be a slight difference. I have a new can and an almost empty squeeze bottle. Same calories. No fat in either. Can-15mg sodium. Bottle-25mg. Ingredients are listed in a different order. Toll free call 1-800-468-1714.

mandyrose 08-02-2014 02:57 PM

years ago I only ever bought the can didn't like the squeeze bottle haven't bought any in a long time so I'm sure they change the product in some way and probably not as good as it use to be

When I went to Canada this summer I was able to find the syrup in a can. It was thicker and richer than the syrup I can get here in the squeeze bottle. My husband puts it on his vanilla ice cream and really noticed the difference. It poured really slower and thicker.

nannyrick 08-02-2014 04:17 PM

I,m sure the syrup in the can is thicker.

FroggyinTexas 08-02-2014 04:54 PM

Google Hershey, get the phone number or the Website and ask. They will tell you and probably send coupons, too. froggyintexas

The can holds 1 1/2 cups of syrup. That's 12 ounces, not 16. Try measuring just syrup weight, not the entire can.
I store the Hershey's bottled syrup in the fridge; it always comes out thick. I have not had a problem making the brownies with the bottled syrup. I only bake with Land O Lakes salted butter, and in our minds the butter adds to the richness of the brownie.

I haven't seen a can of Hershey's in years. Do they still put it in cans?

calla 08-03-2014 10:17 AM

Oh yea and still yummy

teacherbailey 08-03-2014 11:57 AM

No more cans in my area....haven't seen them in a few years. I do remember it being thicker, though, closer to hot fudge.

I agree on both parts!

romanojg 08-03-2014 12:55 PM

The one in the squeeze bottle is made for topping ice cream or adding to milk for kids. The one in the can is made for baking so yes, it is different. The can is richer than the bottle.

ptquilts 08-04-2014 03:35 AM

I remember when the can was almost empty, pouring milk in, thumbs over the two holes, and shake it up for chocolate milk!

bakermom 08-04-2014 02:32 PM

Yum! That was the only topping we ever used when I was growing up. Mom kept the open can in the refrigerator
(2 holes poked with a can opener, 1 big,1 little) and we would try to "sip" some without being caught!

Makes sense to me - it's like drinking a diet coke with a candy bar. Saves a lot of calories.

We did, too! (I still do, when I can GET the canned stuff!)

tenngal 08-09-2014 12:33 PM

I personally think the chocolate in the can tastes better and is thicker.

Onebyone 08-15-2014 09:06 AM

I melt chocolate chips with heavy cream and a little corn syrup to get perfect chocolate syrup when I want it.
