White Lily Self-Rising Flour is the 'Go To' biscuit flour in my part of the south. Martha White and Tube Rose are other brands I have seen on the store shelves. Being that I am a Pittsburgh Yankee transplant, I make my biscuits out of Bisquick.

I have made this buttermilk biscuit recipe for years -- it is from Knotts Berry Farm and is great!! I use a bit more shortening than the recipe calls for, but otherwise I pretty much follow it. I don't use a baking sheet -- I use a couple of cake pans.

I thought the OP meant the biscuits that you make when making quilts. Like two squares of fabric with the batting in the middle? I have enjoyed reading about everyones biscuit ideas, tho. I may have to look up the Angel Biscuit recipe. Thanks.

My favorite is CLOUD BISCUITS

2 c flour 1/2 c shortening (1 stick margarine)
1 Tbs sugar 1 egg, beaten
4 tsp baking powder 2/3 c milk
1/2 tsp salt

Handle dough lightly. Put ingredients into large bowl. Cut shortening into flour,
baking powder and salt. Add milk and beaten egg all at one and mix until mixture
follows a fork. Pat out. Cut. Bake at 450 degrees for 10-14 min.

I cant make a "roll out" or hand rolled bisquit. Mine are like bricks. Found a new recipe a month or so ago and it is so easy and quick. No kneading, and done in less than 30 minutes. That mix and cook time.
2 cups SR flour
2 cups heavy whipping cream.

Mix in a bowl really well and either drop onto cookie sheets with a spoon or use a muffin pan. These are by far the best bisquits I have ever had. And I grew up with a bunch of good bisquit makers.

that's how i started out, and i do that sometimes with regular biscuit dough. my virginia grandma used to take the dough in her hands, and 'gently' roll them BIG , then pat them sorta flat. never floured a surface, and made a mess.
