My dear mother in law passed away 1 month ago. She always made a simple but tasty of apple cider. In large coffee maker (30 cup), put in 1 large jug of apple cider, 1 qt. cranapple juice, small package of cinnamon red hots (don't worry, they will melt and turn into liquid), and a couple of sticks cinnamon. Simple and delicious.

I make this every year:

CHRISTMAS WASSAIL

2 Qt. Apple Juice or Apple Cider
5 Sticks Whole Cinnamon
11 Whole Cloves
3 6-oz. cans orange juice (frozen)
2 6-oz cans lemonade (frozen)
1 Cup Sugar
2 Cup Water

Boil sugar & water for 10 minutes. Add spices, remove from heat & let stand for 3 hours or overnight.
When ready to use, strain out spices, add juices & 10 cans water & apple juice or cider.
Heat & serve. (My son will drink it cold also.)

I just heat up apple cider and cut up some oranges to float in the pot. Add some mulling spices in a cheesecloth or cinnamon sticks. I get the mulling spices from Cracker Barrel and I think maybe WalMart has them too now. I need to get some for Christmas morning at my sons house. YUMMY Thanks for making me remember it.

Thank you everyone for these wonderful recipes. I now have to make a grocery store run in the morning. LOL. I really like the "dry" ingredient mix. I think they would make wonderful gifts for the holidays. Again Thank you everyone & Merry Christmas to you all.
Becky. :D

Here's one I posted on my blog. I'm making a batch today to give my DIL for Christmas.

I have made hot apple cider for large groups.
In pot 2 gallons apple cidder, cinnamon stick 6-8, 4 tsp. lemonade drink mix,5 tsp. orange drink mix, 10 cloves, 1/2 ts all spice,1/4 tsp. nutmeg.
Heat in lg. pot stove (or crock pot) for 2 hrs. Then i put into a 30 cup or so coffee pot to keep warm.
The cloves, cinnamon stick or powder, all spice whole go into a cotton cloth and tied -it is like a tea bag, in the boiling water - take out before putting in coffee pot, can strain if you want. Last a group most of the night.

Turn on high for about an hour to heat, then down on low. We will have some tomorrow for our Christmas Eve gathering. It's easy and good, and makes the house smell great too.

My old boss use to make this but called it perculator punch. Added allspice berries too. Put everything in basket & brewed like coffee. Will cure what ails ya.

I agree with the hot lemonade, it's not spicy but wonderful on cold days and nights. I make a pitcher full, the heat a cup at a time in the microwave. Soothing for a sore throat, also.
