looking for the perfect snack

Next weekend I am joining my quilting guild for a wonderful weekend quilt camp. We are supposed to bring a snack. Any ideas? I am leaning towards something like gorp or chex mix but I sure would love hear your ideas.

Attended a retreat last week and one of the other quilters had purchased a jar of snack mix (crackers, pretzels and nuts. She then replaced some of the mix with candy corn and Hershey chocolate pieces. The chocolate was larger than a dime and smaller than a quarter. It was awesome. Archer Farms made the snack mix. Chocolate is always going.

Popcorn - vegies cut up - apples - grapes

Neesie 10-19-2012 02:33 PM

Cheese and crackers. If you want something a bit different, try goat cheese. Mix the goat cheese with orange zest (grated) and a dollop of honey. Serve with graham crackers or Wheat Thins.

What is 'Gorp'

Good Old Raisins and Peanuts. Much better with salted peanuts and chocolate added.

I am gluten free, so I always bring crackers that I can eat.

Where I live hummus and pita is popular.

paulswalia 10-19-2012 03:35 PM

at our retreat the motto is "if it ain't chocolate, don't bother!".........but I also see fruit, crackers and a fabulous dip of cream cheese with honey mustard poured over it. We try to bring things that won't dirty our hands so we can eat and sew at the same time.

How about Chex Muddy Buddies, (also know as puppy chow). My family loves it!

How about a mixed bowl of salted peanuts and M & M's? Yummy--sweet and salty!

peggyf 10-20-2012 03:37 AM

The other quilters usually bring sweets, so I always bring a 3 # can of cashews. Very popular, as is the sweets.

Have you tried Bugles w/Caramel or Bugles with chocolate and peanut butter - to die for! Trust me. Are they ever good! Mercy. Edie

Mix together the deluxe mixed nuts, raisins, dried pineapple chunks, and M&M's. Very good, and at least a little healthy!

Mix cashew pieces with candy corn. Sweet and salty and yummy.

I love cream cheese with cocktail sauce or pepper jelly poured over it with Town House crackers. Really good! But you will have sticky fingers. Put out some hand wipes along side! Have fun! Wish I could come!

My group loves my old, old favorite of my Grandpa's! When I was a child, he always mixed candy corn and redskin peanuts. I have noticed this year there are several flavors of candy corn! I like the new flavors, but family, not so much! So I will stick to the old plain corn with greasy salted peanuts!

Helen6869 10-20-2012 07:24 AM

does anyone remember or know how to make "white trash?" I think it's something with chex and covered with powdered sugar. Can't remember what else. Actually you could put whatever with powdered sugar and there you go!
Especially like strawberries and other fruit for dipping! yum!

Pieces2 10-20-2012 07:43 AM

Chex mix is always popular. Thers a lot of recipes out there. New ones with the new Chex cereals, cinnamon/chocolate.

Pat75 10-20-2012 09:26 AM

I bring a big jar of mixed nuts or smoked almonds. You can always rub off the access salt and there is not a nut that is bad for you unless you are allergic. With the mixes there are a lot of preservatives and carbs I do not want.

I'm new to the Board, so no avatar yet, but did want to reply to your "white trash" question. Our white trash is a mixture of nuts (whatever you want), small pretzels, m&m's, chex cereal and cheerios (and whatever else I think might taste good). Mix together in large bowl. Melt white chocolate (I use double boiler - sometimes microwave) and pour over your mixture. Mix well. Pour onto waxed paper (makes it easier for me), or in a large flat pan. Let it sit until it's cool, then just break it into pieces. We've used this for years and everyone loves it. And it will keep in the refrigerator, or on the counter, for months. Sorry - I never measure anything, so I can't give amounts.

This is fantastic! When a friend told me it would be better than the peanut M&M's I thought she was crazy - but she was right on!

Pete 10-20-2012 12:30 PM

I did fortune cookies and inserted quilt sayings. Went over big!

TanyaL 10-20-2012 01:45 PM

One year the Boy Scouts sold big tins of chocolate covered already popped popcorn and it was delicious! I have been looking for it ever since.

saveaquilt 10-20-2012 03:33 PM

Super simple, super good. Popped popcorn covered with white choc.

Have a fun time!

SharonCase 10-20-2012 05:30 PM

Bring something gluten free.. Try Lentil Crackers worth rosemary flavor. Wonderful!

mrsjdt 10-20-2012 10:47 PM

They call it "reindeer food" now as "white trash" is politically incorrect!---so I was told when I took it in to work!

Marilynsue 10-21-2012 12:29 AM

Mix candy corn with cashews or to save money, with blanched peanuts.

mjsylvstr 10-21-2012 03:20 AM

this was posted a few weeks ago and it is absolutely delicious. I made two batches, one with white chocolate and one with milk chocolate. Couldn't decide which I preferred so had to eat both !!!!!!!

thanks to whomever sent this recipe in to us......don't know if you did us a favor or not.....couldn't stop eating it !!!

I love snack mix and often make my own...ingredients depend on my mood. I started doing this to try to eat less of the high-fat salted mixed nuts that I can just inhale. I used those, plus wheat chex, mini-pretzels, M&M's and usually at least one kind of dried fruit. WalMart carries a snack mix that I just love....it has three kind of nuts, three kinds of fruit and three kinds of chips (chocolate, white and peanut butter). It is called Indulgence, I think. Comes in a big reclosable bag.

dgeskine 10-21-2012 07:51 AM

This is a great treat for the season:
Pumpkin Cream Cheese Spread

Ingredients:
1-8 ounce package cream cheese, softened
½ cup canned pumpkin
¼ cup sugar
¾ teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
½ teaspoon vanilla

Directions:
Combine pumpkin pie spice and sugar, stir until mixed. In a medium bowl combine softened cream cheese and remaining ingredients. Mix until all ingredients are thoroughly blended. Refrigerate until ready to serve; serve with bagels or crackers of your choice.

How about veggies and ranch dressing. We like the multi-colored small sweet peppers (come bagged)..they come from sunny FL...Delic.

lisajane 10-21-2012 01:12 PM

I think these sound good, I haven't made them yet..but I was planning to make a batch or twoo for the holidays, they are called Cake Batter Muddy Buddies. Kinda like Puppy Chow, only made with a different twist. You can find it at www.the-girl-who-ate-everything.com. Or try this link....http://www.the-girl-who-ate-everythi...nd-snacks.html

dc989 10-21-2012 07:27 PM

I love sliced apples this time of year with a dip of peanut butter and marshmallow cream mixed together. I don't have an exact recipe but use about half and half for the dip.

KimmieH 10-22-2012 07:32 AM

Snakes have different varieties like almon + dates along with the milk is the best regimen for the health to grow it smoothly and betterly.Secondly energy drinks also taken in the form of shakes which also so much nutritious and energetic for the weakend health.

TanyaL 10-22-2012 08:48 PM

Here is a good energy drink for the times you aren't going to be driving. 4 fresh eggs and 1 cup of sugar beaten to high froth in a mixer or in a hurry you can use a blender. Add 2 cups fresh orange juice, 1 cup milk, season to taste with vanilla. adjust everything to taste. Add your favorite liquor. It's like an orange eggnog. Very healthy. Makes you feel better immediately. Good for the libido.

If any of those raw eggs happen to harbor salmonella bacteria, you can kiss your energy and libido goodbye.

:D Amen to that! :D I think you can use pasteurized eggs to get around that, though. Not being a huge fan of raw eggs, I can't say for sure.
