Sardines, love them or hate them?

I LOVE sardines! My favourites are Brunswick sardines in spring water. I toast french bread and put the drained sardines on the top. A little salt and pepper and yum! Sardines are super good for you with lots of Omega 3 for keeping your brain sharp. What category do you belong to, love or hate? How do you eat yours if you love them?

tatavw01 02-29-2012 08:56 AM

sardines in tomato sauce stewed with onion, pepper and potatoes severed with rice mmmm!

Sadiemae 02-29-2012 10:00 AM

Yuck!!! My late DH loved them and just ate them straight from the can.

Sandra in Minnesota 02-29-2012 11:06 AM

Love to eat them from the can to the saltine cracker!

Liz92B 02-29-2012 11:09 AM

they smell so bad, that I've never even tried to actually *eat* one ... {giggle}

patimint 02-29-2012 05:41 PM

Yuck! That means I DO NOT like them. My husband likes them, so always have some on hand for him, but I go in the other room when he eats them.

luvnquilt 02-29-2012 05:49 PM

Haven't had them in years but as a kid, I really liked them on saltines :)

scraphq 02-29-2012 07:10 PM

Sardines in oil on saltines. Wow! what a great snack. Also, like pickled herring. How about you?

vwquilting 02-29-2012 07:24 PM

Every Christmas we buy our g son sardines He can't wait to get them. Other gs gets Restaurant size jar of pickles. Gd loves Ribbon Candy.

I usually avoid any kind of seafood/fish etc (the bones put me off and I think prawns etc. are just "sea insects"). I do like sardines though. I have them de-boned, finely mashed with grated onion a little tomato sauce and chilli, spread on toast and popped under the grill for a minute or so

quilter1 03-01-2012 04:54 AM

Oh please, why would you want to eat something that smells that bad. Put it in the same category as Limburger cheese. My DH loves both of them.

coopah 03-01-2012 05:54 AM

My DH loves them in mustard. I make sure I leave home for awhile when he's planning on eating them. He also has to grill his SPAM outside and when I'm not home. But he won't eat green pepers or green beans. Go figure! LOL

Linda58 03-01-2012 06:08 AM

I agree, they are so yucky!!! And my DH eats them out of the can too!

sharon1 03-01-2012 07:45 AM

None for me!

jbj137 03-01-2012 09:35 AM

Love them about once a year,
On saltines with mustard (add my own - not the packed in mustard).

Before I became vegetarian, loved sardines in mustard sauce and put them on crackers. Yummy.

Sewze 03-01-2012 09:54 AM

We love them also......packed in oil, skinless and boneless. Add some grain mustard, a little onion, some sliced green olives with pimento, and a little piece of hot pepper. Mash up and serve on saltines, panitini, or any cracker that is on hand; at least once a week. Yummmm

solstice3 03-01-2012 10:06 AM

Love seafood. HATE sardines.

I just have to laugh. My late DH would have loved this. I on the other hand don't like mustard, green olives, pimento or hot pepper.

KatFish 03-01-2012 10:48 AM

I hate them! DH loves them. They make great fish bate!

patchsamkim 03-01-2012 03:58 PM

No thanks!

CMARAS1234 03-02-2012 01:00 AM

love, sardines, kippers, lox and bagels.. especially on water crackers. Cmaras

Moonglow 03-02-2012 02:08 AM

I usually mash them, add some finely chopped red onion, a squeeze of lemon juice and then spread on toast. Delicious!

Quilt-Till-U-Wilt 03-02-2012 05:30 AM

I remember my grandmother eating them but I just don't think I'd like them. I do eat pickled herring. I love herring and cheese for a snack.

honeybea 03-02-2012 05:41 AM

I eat them ocasionally but don't really care for them. I am glad I have just discovered new ways of serving them and am going to try some. The suggestions may make me like them.....Great tips

gma7 03-02-2012 07:29 AM

I love them- also like the saltine idea.

Elaine433 03-02-2012 08:04 AM

Love them mashed up with some good grainy mustard and a little chopped onion--make a sandwich and top with fresh tomato. Don't knock it unless you have tried it. If you only go with your nose to tell you what you should eat, you are missing out on alot of goodies.

new2q 03-02-2012 08:11 AM

I have never tried them. Do they taste "fishy" I am not a big fish eater and forget it if it is very fishy. I think I would like to try them

mjhaess 03-02-2012 08:43 AM

I am with you...I love them. I like the boneless and skinless the best. Packed in olive oil is also good....I eat them right from the can. Grosses out my friends...LOL...Yum...

Me too! I like the ones in oil, prefer olive oil if I can find them. Just pick up a forkful of sardine, let the oil drip away a little and then on to a saltine, mmm good.

Iraxy 03-02-2012 10:42 AM

I love sardines. I love them on thin slices of french bread or saltines. My favorite are in oil, but sometimes I get a craving for the ones in mustard. My DH hates them, can't stand the smell of them. So, sometimes when I have a craving, I shoo him out of the house and indulge. You would think that one little can of sardines would not upset such a big man, but you would be wrong. The faces he makes even when he sees them in our pantry. Silly man. YUM!!!

AUQuilter 03-02-2012 10:56 AM

Sardines packed in Hot Sauce straight out of the can. I eat them because they are easy, the Omega 3 and the bones provide calcium. A few crackers at the very end to take that taste down a bit.

hobo2000 03-02-2012 11:20 AM

Certainly better than taking those big Omega3 pills, and a lot tastier. I like the big ones, skinless, boneless, packed in olive oil with good crackers.

I think I would prefer a pill.

Sew Krazy Girl 03-02-2012 11:40 AM

This is so funny. My DH loves sardines too! I can take them or leave them but I know they are an excellent source of nutrients. Always keep some in the cupboard just for him.

chickadeee55 03-02-2012 01:58 PM

Love them esp in mustard or olive oil, and yes, they are good for you.

LUANNH 03-02-2012 02:01 PM

Love them, drained then soaked in vinager and eat them up. yumm

ShabbyTabby 03-02-2012 02:10 PM

I love 'em...put them in a tossed green salad, eat them on a sandwich with hot sauce and mayo, also eat them with Saltines....I like the Tiny Tots.
