This looks dangerous.

pennijanine 10-15-2011 10:36 PM

Yummy! I think I am going to make this for Thanksgiving! :-)

SulaBug 10-15-2011 11:37 PM

This is a definate keeper!! My DH would love this cake, as snikerdoodle cookies are his very favorite. Thank you so much for finding & posting this for us!!
:D :D :D :D

LoriEl 10-16-2011 03:31 AM

All that butter-Paula Deen would be proud! Sounds delish!!

JanetP 10-16-2011 03:40 AM

Sounds incredible -- but oh so dangerous. All that butter -- it's got to be wonderful.

blueangel 10-16-2011 03:53 AM

Sounds wonderful but my chlorestral couldn't handle it.

mummadee 10-16-2011 04:04 AM

OOOOh. Sounds wonderful! Saving for a special event. I always bake a "special" cake for special occassion, especially this one. Would be too dangerous to have any leftovers. A pound and a half of butter? it will have to be a once in a lifetime cake, but sounds worthit.

Babs194068 10-16-2011 05:10 AM

Sounds delish!!

GMaJanet 10-16-2011 05:31 AM

way to much butter.....

KimmieH 10-16-2011 05:44 AM

Yum

3incollege 10-16-2011 05:46 AM

I have made the cupcakes , next weekend I am having the kids come for dinner , I'll make the cake!

Val in IN 10-16-2011 06:45 AM

Thanks for the link!! I think this will be super-yummy. I might try it as cupcakes for my quilt group meeting at our Christmas potluck. Bookmarked and added to my Favorites.

bobbie1 10-16-2011 07:06 AM

6 1/2 sticks of butter??? Will pass on this one! :-D

AnnT 10-16-2011 07:42 AM

Sounds rich and delicious!!

reeskylr 10-16-2011 08:19 AM

Wow, this sounds great. I wonder if you can just get the butter cream frosting in a can and add the cinnamon and a little brown sugar....hm.

Plus, just get a white cake mix, use the butter instead of the oil and add the cinnamon. Hm...

pippi65 10-16-2011 09:28 AM

YIKES!!! 4 & 1/2 sticks of butter?????

lillybeck 10-16-2011 09:47 AM

I have an aunt in Ind that always makes a batch of snickerdoodles when we head that way so you can believe I will not only try it myself but send it to her.

grayma 10-16-2011 12:21 PM

This sounds like a mortal sin waiting to happen. I have to try this, but only when there are enough people to share so that I only eat one piece!

lisajane 10-16-2011 01:08 PM

4 1/2 sticks of butter don't scare me! Sounds like an excellent cake, probably a holiday cake....say Thanksgiving or Christmas? But I will definately have to give it a try first to see if it measures up to a holiday cake. LOL I am sure it will. Paula Deen ain't shy when it comes to butter, and she seems to be doing fine. People who constantly worry about butter, bacon, cholesterol, eggs, etc. etc. worry thereselves right into a health crisis. Ease up.....you are not going to live on this cake, a piece won't hurt you...if you get a fork and the cake stand with the cake....well you might have a problem.

I believe in "moderation in all things." But you have to die from something! You may as well die happy! (No, I don't normally eat that much fat! Moderation, moderation!!) I hope someone tries it and posts their thoughts on it!

collady 10-16-2011 02:28 PM

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Going to make it tonight!!!!

kathyd 10-16-2011 04:25 PM

Thanks. I love snickerdoodle cookies!! This has to be delicious.

Grambi 10-16-2011 05:03 PM

Yummy! Okay, I've printed and have a family reunion to bake for next weekend. My problem is that it's so hard for me to get a cake frosted nicely, especially when it's four layers. That cupcake idea might be better for me. Plus, less messy for serving. Hmmm...do I need to make any adaptations in the recipe for cupcakes? How long would I cook them? Any bakers with any tips on turning this cake recipe into a cupcake recipe?

Ann L 10-16-2011 05:55 PM

I love snickerdoodles! The frosting sound enough to put me in a sugar stupor! Might have to try this one. thanks for sharing.

I wouldn't think you would need to modify the recipe, but check a cake box for how long to cook the cupcakes. I would think 15 min or so. Let us know how they turn out. I might do that myself. Thanks for the idea.

Is your cupcake recipe the same? If not would you share your recipe?

raksmum 10-16-2011 09:21 PM

This sure does sound yummy! I have never bought butter by the "stick". How much butter is in a stick?

mummadee 10-16-2011 10:54 PM

I would think that transporting that high a cake might pose a problem. I'd probably try to take the layers and the frosting separately and assemble there. I cannot separate a layer, so I bake them separately. I would divide cake mix into quarters and bake 4 individual layers, thereby avoiding the cutting.

This is what I plan to do when I try it. I am not into homemade cakes anymore.

Problem is that the "Buttercream Frosting" in a can probably doesn't have real butter in it. They ususally have some kind of hydrogenated oil. My feelings about that are that if I'm going to be bad and have all the fat (and I am) I would much rather have the good-tasting butter than the fake stuff. I don't often make homemade cakes myself, but I just may have to try this one. I still think I'm going the cupcake route though, because I'm frosting-challenged when it comes to cakes (lol).

The butter in the grocery stores in my area have one pound boxes of butter that contain four individually wrapped "sticks". How is butter packaged in Canada?

True on that. I keep thinking about this cake and how much I wanna get a taste of it.

I may make it for Thanksgiving, that way there are 15 people eating on it and one piece will be enough.

I made this cake on Sunday. I did not cut the cake into four layers so I made half the receipe for the icing. It is very good. The brown sugar in the icing gave the icing a little crunch and it was very good. Special event cake.

Good idea! Was a half recipe of frosting enough to get a nice thick layer? I might have a chance of doing a decent frosting job on just two layers.

CarrieAnne 10-17-2011 04:56 PM

yum!

Yes, the frosting was thick, almost too much frosting. I used the large bag of powdered sugar, 1/4 cup of brown sugar and 2 sticks of butter. Turned out perfect.

Glad to help. I figured out there in Alberta, you just rope your own cow, milk her and make your own butter! I'm just kidding, of course. Just a nod to you Cowgirl heritage.
