Has anyone ever froze granulated sugar?? Thanks

I have a FoodSaver and I put mine in the FoodSaver bags, vacuum seal them and then store the bags in a pop corn can that I received for Christmas one year. They keep really well that way.

I put Sugar,Flour,Cornmeal,in the freezer all the time without a problem

yes all the time , flour also .

I've never refrigerated or frozen sugar; but do refrigerate flour and those type products; things will 'hatch' out of the flour products, eventually if not used and recycled out frequently. I'm not so sure it's the critters that 'find' the flour products as them hatching out of the product if not used often. Either way it's disheartening to find bugs crawling around in your crackers or flour. Ewwww

i have never tried freezing but have dry canned using a vacuum sealer. I think the wide mouth jars work the best and stay sealed for a long time. I keep a lot of dried foods this way. check you tube for ideas and how to do it.

Thanks for all your replies. The reason for asking is that I got a 50 lb bag really cheap and needed to store it.

I keep my bulk sugar and flour in the freezer, and have for about 10 years. However I do not keep anything else in that particular chest (NON frost free) freezer - just bulk supplies.
I have never noticed a problem with picking up odors or tastes, but then all the veggies and stronger stuff is in a different freezer. |
I would not put sugar in the freezer, it will not spoil at room temperature.
I keep nuts and whole wheat flour in the freezer, as it takes longer to use those up and they could attract insects. I have never had bugs get into the sugar. I buy sugar and flour in 10 kg (22 pound) bags. |
