Want Recipes That Use Canned Apple Pie Filling

I am hoping to find some easy, yummy, gooey, many-times-made recipes that the main ingredient is a can of ordinary apple pie filling.

Do have something like this?

nananurse 11-11-2015 04:34 AM

We use apple pie filling to make hand pies or fried pies if you're like me and from the south. I have a circle cutter for tart size crusts and I use that to make the crust and put a tbsp of apple pie filling in the center and fold the crust into a half moon shape and seal the edges. Bake at 350 until golden brown. You can do an egg wash on the outside if you like and sprinkle with a little bit of sugar. Or if you want fried just heat your oil and drop it in until golden brown turn it over to brown the opposite side.

You can also use the half pint mason jars to make your pie in. Spray to bottom of the jar with a little cooking spray. Use the lid of the jar to cut a circle of dough and place it in the bottom of the jar. Spoon in the filling to cover the crust. Cut another circle or use a cookie cutter of choice or cut strips of dough to cover the pie filling. Bake at 350 until golden brown.

I've done both of these many times and it is easy, quick and delish. I hope this helps

Nananurse, I've never been able to successfully make a fried apple pie, but do plan to try your instructions using the half pint mason jars. Haven't heard it before and sounds like maybe I can master that one. Thanks.

This is a recipe I found in one of those "brand name" cookbooks, GREAT AMERICAN FAVORITE BRAND NAME COOKBOOK, COLLECTOR'S EDITION. I use apple pie filling instead of the peach pie filling recommended. This is the recipe: 1 package Duncan Hines yellow cake mix, 1/2 teaspoon each of cinnamon and nutmeg, 2 sticks of softened butter or margarine, 1/2 cup chopped nuts, 1 can of peach (I used apple) pie filling, 1 can of whole cranberry sauce.

Preheat oven 350 degrees F. Combine dry mix, cinnamon, nutmeg in bowl. Cut in butter or margarine with pastry cutter or two knives until crumbly. Toss in nuts. Set aside.

Combine pie filling and cranberry sauce in ungreased 13 x 9 x 2 baking pan and mix well. Sprinkle crumb mixture over fruit. Bake at 350 F. for 45 tp 50 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm topped with vanilla ice cream or whipped topping.

My family loves this "cobbler."

Apple Enchiladas

Apples rolled in flour tortillas. VERY delicious, easy, and fast to make. Substitute apples with peaches or cherries if desired. Servings: 6

1 (21 ounce) can apple pie filling
6 (8-inch) flour tortillas
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup water

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Spoon fruit evenly onto all tortillas, sprinkle with cinnamon. Roll up tortillas and place seam side down on lightly greased 8x8 baking pan.

Bring margarine, sugars and water to a boil in a medium sauce pan. Reduce heat and simmer, stirring constantly for 3 minutes.

Pour sauce evenly over tortillas; sprinkle with extra cinnamon on top if desired. Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes.

Makes 6 large tortillas.

Try it with the recipe in this forum called cream cheese bars made with crescent rolls. I made this as is, and it is YUMMY, want to make it again with a canned fruit pie filling.

I like to take premade pie crust and cut it into circles that will fit into a muffin tin, add pie filling and put a dutch crumble topping on each, than bake until golden brown. Quick and easy

They are delicious, and they fit the "easy, yummy, gooey" requirement perfectly. In fact, I may have to make some soon myself!

My recipe for this says it must be an angel food cake mix. Also says you can use any canned pie filling. We tried it with cherry. Amazing! Light and tasty.

How about Apple Crisp?
It's so easy to make and only requires butter-Apple filling-box of apple crisp mix by Loretta
I found this mix at the dollar tree...it was really good.

It works with any cake mix too. I bet spice cake and apple pie filling would be a good combination.

Apple Pie-Cake

2 large eggs
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/3 cup sugar
1 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 21-ounce can of apple pie filling
1 1/2 tablespoon turbinado sugar for sprinkling on top

Directions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
1. In a medium bowl, beat the eggs, vanilla, and sugar together until smooth and thick?about one minute.
2. In another bowl, mix the dry ingredients. Add them to the egg mixture and stir until well combined.
3. Stir in the pie filling.
4. Pour the mixture into a well-greased, nine-inch deep dish pie pan. Sprinkle the turbinado sugar on top and bake for 20 minutes or until browned and a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
Serving suggestion: This is one of those desserts that is much better served warm. Heat individual servings in the microwave.

If you seal them while they are good and hot, they will last quite a while. I used to do these and cakes and send to Iraq. They loved them!! I used can holders to put around the glass before I packed the boxes. Filled box tightly with goodies and they arrived safe and sound AND unbroken!! The trick to mailing them. is put in middle of box and enough packing so they don't move. I used hard candy instead of foam peanuts! Makes for a heavy box but you get your monies worth from the Post Office, LOL. I worked at the Post Office.

I make these all the time for work functions. They are simple, yet impressive.

Get a box or two of the frozen phyllo dough cups in your grocer's freezer section. They are already cooked. All you have to do is fill them with whatever filling you want.

Spoon in the Apple Pie filling, then you can top it with something if you want. Sometimes I'll drizzle some melted caramel on them, sometimes I'll dust them with powdered sugar.

Couldn't be easier!
