That is a really old recipe. I remember reading it in one of the Little House on the Prairie books. I've never tried it, but have had others tell me it is very good. My mom used to make fried apples. The same as yours, but no onions.

Good in candied sweet potatoes: this is a quick recipe.
1 - 15 ounce can sweet potatoes or yams(drain most of juice) cut up 1 small apple and mix in 2 Tbsp. Brown sugar 1 or 2 Tbsp. dry powdered orange or pineapple jello Cook in microwave 4 or 5 minutes, stirring every 2-3 minutes. |

No, the leftovers of one apple wouldn't be enough for a pie, though. But apple crisp is one of my favorite dishes! Anyway, I'll know for next time. vjengels, you said you can't get Macs this late in the season in Colorado, the point is that it wasn't a very good one. We do have them here - year round, I think - but I pine for Jonathans, which they just don't have on the East Coast. QuiltMania, I adore onions, so that actually sounds good to me. Actually, it sounds like sweet & sour red cabbage - without the cabbage, lol. |

Put in microwave with sugar cinnamon and sugar. Delish.

I cut up bad apples or use apple cores to boil & then simmer on the stove with cinnamon & ground cloves added to the water. It doesn't take long for the house to smell wonderful. I continue to add water throughout the day as it simmers down. :)
