my favorite is a recipe hubby brought home from a neighbor, over 40 years ago. he'd been over at their house, and the wife was pulling delicious cookies out of the oven, and he was eating them as quickly as she brought them out. she called the "kolatchkies"--different than the filled rolls. they are a lovely rolled base, cut into squares, then filled with whatever filling you've got around, and then folded like an envelope. i like them with poppy seed filling, hubby likes them with either a raisin filling, or raspberry jam. they are wonderful, if a bit of a pain in the neck to make...

Years ago, when my boys were in the junior high school/senior high school age, I decided for us all, that we would not have cookies all summer, unless they were homemade.
The boys came through! They worked together and made cookies all summer.

auntpiggylpn 06-27-2011 01:09 PM

I don't know the name of my favorite. I think maybe my SIL made up the recipe so I will describe it. You make chocolate drop cookies. You bake them part way - maybe 7-8 minutes. Then you put half of a large marshmallow on top of each cookie and continue baking another 3 minutes. After they cool off you frost them with yummy chocolate frosting. They are to die for! Who wants one? I do!

Pecan Sandies - good. Snickerdoodles - good. Oatmeal Raisin - good. Can't decide.
I have a recipe for home made Pecan Sandies that melt in your mouth. To die for.

When I first saw this thread, I couldn't think what my favorite cookie was, even though I have a favorite. I just had a block.

Anyway, my favorite cookie is wafers (gaufrettes), always has been my fave. LU brand makes great chocolate wafer cookies, though they no longer call them Gaufrettes. I've found Israeli ones that are called Gaufrettes, and Mexican ones with mango filling. Right now, I'm munching some from a Gottena variety bag (imagine, a variety bag of wafer cookies!), which is from Germany.
