Lightbulb Quick Easy Ginger Bread House

My kids are making ginger bread houses right now. The houses are so cute. They are made out of graham crackers, a can of frosting and store bought candy. The only thing I changed is we use hot glue to put the houses together. By doing so there is practically no waiting and they are very sturdy. Have fun!

Oh please do not use glue on something that could/should be edible!

Instead of glue ... melt some sugar in an electric frying pan.
Then dip the edges of the graham crackers into the melted sugar.
Press edges together to "glue" the graham crackers ... these might be at right angles for corners of your houses, or it might be on the flat, if you are wanting your wall to be longer than the cookies are.

The sugar/glue will be brown. So to cover that up, you can ice overtop of the brown.
Then add on your candies as you wish.

I have made them this way for years. You can make small mini homes ... or giant castle like ones. Whatever the imagination wants. And sometimes, it's been a village of all sorts of different houses, churches, barns etc.

This way you have fully edible houses and everyone can enjoy it, when you are finished using it for decoration.

No worries. They do not eat the house or icing. They only eat the candy.

Hope so ... though kids will be kids ... so yes, I'd sooner be safe than sorry!

Thank you for your concern. I did double check and none of them eat it. You are right kids will be kids. We might try your recipe another time.

They definitely are!!

After I learned to do them, we did them for a few years with 3 GFs and their kids. The kids are all grown now with ones of their own, and still talk about it as a special Christmas memory. Hope they will soon do them with their own little ones! Everyone used to bring candies, and pool them ... and we had so much fun making some overly decorated houses!

How fun to get a different perspective depending on where you live. In the humid south eating "gingerbread" that has sat out any length of time-no thanks. LOL
