I often quilt bare foot. turn the foot pedal upside down, your toes curl over the ridge of the pedal, it takes care of a lot of the problem, but you can also glue some of the shelf liner to the top...

turn it over and put the top on the bottom and you are able to curl toes over the bump and it works slick. if it slides use some of the other suggestions, but it solve some of the problems too.

It really made a difference on one of my larger quilts, and was not too expensive, and it sure cuts the time you need to pin or hand...
