If it's the button controller with the carbon disks ArchaicArcane's blog has a good writeup on rebuilding them. Otherwise, the solid state controllers are pretty nice.

I would have preferred to see it original too. Even if there wasn't much left of the finish. The cylinder arm is a nice feature.

I haven't seen that one before. Looks like one of the better examples of Mid Century Modern. Check Glenn's tutorials on restoring cabinets. You should be able to get it cleaned up quite nicely. ...

The Singer 101 was made before the wiring diagram above. It's a little different, there's no 3 prong connector. Just follow the path of the wires and it should work though. You can rewire easily...

Finding really good vintage free arm machines here in the USA isn't that easy. Free arms were far more popular in Europe and Australia than here for many years. Elnas and Husqvarnas do show up...

Good question on the oil stains. Glenn probably has some better ideas. I would try wood bleach. Trisodium Phosphate.
You can find it in hardware stores in the paint section IIRC.

That's a really good price. Steve's example is an earlier machine and the extra wide table in the back is a nice plus so the higher price is justified. Both are low prices IMO.
