they place a do not wash fat qtrs on all their fat quarters....because of raveling. I doubt that they even thought about its color.

This should work fine, but go ahead and add some extra all the way around and cut it off before binding. I've done queensize on my longarm with that small a backing extra.

As someone else said...many blenders and others...
As someone else said...many blenders and others are made with thsi sort of fading in and out. Should be fine. I would wash it again though to make sure that everything is done changing.
