The bobbin cover slides in groves like a vibrating shuttle front and rear sliding plates. The Two Spool plate slides left to right.

I do keep a spray bottle for the insides of SM's with 70 to 90% Kerosene (depends on how long I need to let it set) and the other 10 to 30% SMO.
