If the flying geese are too contrasty they would take away from the centre focus, but if the colours are muted, not too contrasty, e.g. deep taupe geese on medium taupe background or the other way...

I've used the EB technique and ruler too with good effect - am hand quilting it now, will post soon, then when it's finished. It's in greens tan an gold on tan background from a scrap barrel.
