UM OUCH! Here in Kansas I have my machine serviced for around 50.00. Never had a spring go bad yet so I can't say how much that would cost. Anything over a hundred is WAY too much.

The only thing I have heard about spray basting...
The only thing I have heard about spray basting is not to use it on heirloom quilts. Overtime it will cause certain light colors to turn a dark brown. Enjoy.
