Welcome from Pearland, Tx (just down the road from you) and I agree with those above regarding the Lone Star. I've been quilting about 5yrs and do not feel ready to tackle a Lone Star yet. Nine patch, stip quilt, rail fence, yellow brick road, all could be done in Southwest colors and fit with your decor.

while in Fl last winter I made a southwest print by MODA fabrics called "Spirit of the Southwest". I saw an ad in a quilt magazine few yrs ago but have never been able to find it since and I have searched thru many magazines .
My pattern was simple --more like a "Rail Fence". I was able to find only some of the fabrics when I needed more so that is why I was doing research. Used some jelly rolls for first time .
If anyone finds the pics of the ad i will pay for it.
Better to sew simple in beginning.

The Lone Star is very similar to the Evening Star. It was the one of the quilts I made when I first started quilting. If you can, a basic quilt class will help make this quilt much easier. The cutting of this quilt is the most important. A rotary cutter and mat is crucial. The 1/4 inch seam is the second most important. A good set of instructions will walk you through it fairly easily. If you have any questions let me know. I will help all I can.
