I use Glad Press and Seal. It sticks to the quilt, and isn't too much trouble to peel off
after the design is sewn.

My first quilt was a wall hanging of a fireplace for Christmas. That was 40 odd years ago. One of my DDs still uses it at Christmas. I also still have the pattern.
