I, also, have used the lpsharp.com company for "exchange" blades. I have been very satisfied. Out of 50+ blades I have ordered the past 2 years, only 1 wasn't quite as sharp as the others...........

I have done that more than once and yes, I backed it with a VERY lightweight pellon. Then I just used it like the rest of the blocks. I have not done an "attic window" block with cross stitch...
