Sometimes it is not the right time to finish a quilt. Start the new one and when that one gets old you may want to take a break and finish the first one. I do that a lot.

Tyr finding a store that does counted cross stitch, hardanger, etc. They will carry a larger variety of perle cotton thread. Around here there are stores especially for that.
