In my experience, Sharpies make a mess of fabric. I think that Crayola makes a pen that does not wash out. Remember to iron freezer paper to the back of the fabric that you will write on.

I would try Johnsons or Mennen Baby Oil. Rub it in well and let it set for several hours. I think baby oil is just scented mineral oil.
