I always wash flannel - it shrinks and has lots of lint. I've used Minkee several times without pre washing. No problems with it.

The only fabric I usually prewash is flannel. Otherwise I wash the quilt when it's completely finished. If I'm worried about bleeding colors I use Retayne.

A friend once told me to give myself 15 minutes a day for sewing - it's amazing what you can get done in a short amount of time if you do it consistently. I found it to be very relaxing.
