shellac will be fine and recommended although I would only one coat of amber and two coats of the clear shellac. Some times the amber if more that one coat will have a slight orange look.

Yes it is PB Blaster, I just call it Plast Buster and yes the best penetratng oil ever. I could clean old machines without it.
I get mine at Wal Mart.

Make sure you have the right needle, this machine takes a 20X1 needle. You can cheat down a 15X1 about a 1/8" in the needle clamp and it will work fine.
