Having flags, stars and red, white and blue doesn't make it patriotic. It's a lovely work, but patriotic is something that is very subjective, depending on the what the person feels is patriotic.
To the op, Please don't hate me or be hurt. It's lovely, it's wonderfully pieced. I think it was the pinwheels that may have been the off part. They line up and make wonderful subtle stars, but the pinwheels to my eye outshine the stars.
Does that make sense?
