I was pretty sure that was how you came to have so many.
One year, I used those HST for pinwheels, alternated with a constant color in between. I made all the pinwheels, then cut the squares, and put them through as "courtesy blocks" during our Girl Scout Day Camp.
Another name for courtesy blocks is "leaders and enders" ... have you heard of the Leaders and enders technique?
During the Day Camp, the girls select eight 5" charms, sew them together in twosies, then foursies, then all together.
In between each of the joinings, in order to not having a bunch of kids dancing around, waiting for their turn, we have them join the singles into twosies,
stitch the "courtesy" block, cut their twosie away and go to the Iron Lady ...
I think our last Day Camp, there were almost 50 girls, and they managed to stitch 3 quilt tops for QOV and a baby quilt for Operation Stork ... the courtesy blocks just kept getting bigger and bigger and finally the girls had made a baby quilt ...
When I don't have a Day Camp to use HST in, I put them into five HST by 5 rows and try to make sure that all of the color parts are going in the same direction (a bigger challenge that one would think <g>) ... in time, I can join them all together into a quilttop, or put them in as part of a sampler.
