One trick that might help you evaluate -- turn your photos into grayscale (black and white) and you will be better able to tell if you have enough contrast happening.

That's exactly what I was going to say. I've done several bargellos and one of the mistakes I have made is to look at the whole piece of fabric (like the blue with the white flowers) and think it reads darker, when really it may only show a piece of white flower and will read darker in the quilt. You may want to go smaller scale and save the larger print for a border.
