I would say $10 an hour is too low. That's not much more than minimum wage (at least here in Washington). Your time and talent are definitely worth more than that.
I also agree that you need to get the payment at the beginning. Of course, this means you will need to estimate how much time it will take you so you can say before hand.
Just don't sell yourself short.
