I buy more than one spool of thread for a project. But my backs are always a different color and usually a solid so the thread in the bobbin matches my backs. I like to buy those extra wide fabrics for my backs for larger quilts and they are usually something that reads as a solid. It's really handy to not have to unthread your machine to wind a bobbin.
