I have an electric one and believe me, it is idiot proof or I wouldn't have bought it. My mother used a regular one, but I have always been scared that I would blow one up, so I would never purchase one. The electric one is failsafe and everything comes out great and tender. Cooks great beans and soups, too. I highly recommend one.
