This was truly a scrap quilt... I dug through all my scraps and cut anything bigger than 2". I didn't cut any of the pieces from yardage. I did use some strips from FQ. My main concern was to find as many different fabrics as I could without obsessing about duplicates. And if my scraps were large enough than I did cut strips. And I also received both some 2" squares and scraps from others. I threw the darker squares in one box and the lighter in another. When I started having trouble finding a light to match up with a dark, I'd cut more lights and vice versa. I could not force myself to be totally random. There had to be some pleasing relationship between the two. I couldn't cut for too long or I would get careless. So it was rounds of cut some, sew some, then cut some more.
